Pillion removal and fender cleanup

Just got a nice sporty seat off ebay, but I don't think it's going to work out. Had no idea how much that would raise the seat height. I don't think it's going to work for my 5'1" wife's legs.

Thinking about just removing the pillion pad instead. Front seat is in pretty good shape. She's never going to carry a passenger, anyway, and I think she'd like the look better, too. I'm also removing the sissybar & fender brackets. Will weld all the extra holes and mount some mini signals directly on the fender.

But, what about the rear fender? I can move the reg/rect, wiring, etc., but I'm not sure how it'll look with all the bumps and stuff after all that relocation. Anyone have pics of their Savage rear fender after cleaning up the stuff under the pillion pad? I've even thought about some bondo or fiberglass moulding to smooth it all out, but not sure how it'd look. Oh, yeah, it's all getting a fresh coat of metallic charcoal gray after all this, so no worries about all that.

Open to suggestions. I'm handy with welding and grinding, too.

pic up a new fender. Cheap on Ebay. I got one that is 7.5" wide. it had no holes in it. I cut it to fit, painted, drilled it and attatched it. Looks much cleaner now with no pillion. Gave it a bit of that chopper bobber look. I also got a new tail light and made a side mount license so the fender area is nice and clean. Just has mini turn signals attatched to the side of the fender.

JRM, that seat looks comfy. Not too big for a gut my size either. OOOPS! I meant a GUY my size.. lol, Where can I get one? Was it hard to mount? What did you do to the rear signals? I have a white S40, but it's no where near that good looking. I like the clean rear fender. That rear light makes the fender profile look great. I am ready for some of these mods. Will you tell me where ya got the good lookin stuff? Thanks..

Gender:	Re: Pillion removal and fender cleanup Reply #9 - 01/12/07 at 05:00:10 Seat is recovered front seat off a older savage, turn signals are cut down stock items w/ hollow lamp pieces inserted in so you can run wires through. bought threaded light fixtures w/ nuts at Home Depot by the lamp and ceiling fan hardware.
