Title: Chrome bolt on right side cylinder head
Post by 04Savage04 on 04/11/24 at 14:14:56

There is a single chrome bolt on the right side cylinder head that I want to remove to clean up. Can I simply remove it or is it holding something internally?

It secures the camshaft chain tensioner (actually rear guide) to the cylinder head.  I can't remember if the guide is trapped making it safe to be able to remove the bolt.  Hopefully another forum member can give you a better answer.

I would not remove that bolt.  As ThumperPaul mentioned, it is the pivot bolt for the rear cam chain guide.  The guide will shift out of position, and it will be near impossible to get things to line up without removal of the head cover and/or clutch cover.

Thanks Mike.  I knew you would know for sure.  I wanted to say that, but couldn’t remember if there was something that captured the upper end of the guide that prevented it from slipping out of place.
