Title: Needed - Matching Ignition Switch & Fuel Cap

Title says it all...well almost all, the bike is a 95 so the connector needs to match.

As far as I know all ig sw connectors are the same.

I have several, do you have keyway preference?
And I don't think I have keys.

I looked at the wire diagrams for the various years and all seem to be the same Orange/Black, Orange, Brown, Gray wire scheme.

I'm not sure I understand the keyway preference and the "I don't have keys". If there aren't keys, aren't they just paper weights?

there are at least 4 keyways (cross section) c, d, e and f.
the letters used to be stamped on the key along with the key cuts.

If you already have a bike, usually you have keys, you may want to have the keys match.
I don't know why you're getting them replaced and you didn't specify.

If you send me a key, I can try to rekey them.

Kit is available thru Suzuki ignition, cap, helmet lock, cover lock. $$$. Ignition switches are easy on eBay or Amazon , green connector. They get ya on the kit but everything is on one key , except steering lock. I bought an ignition switch for a golf cart $16 it would work but have to modify/ replace/eliminate connector. All most any keyed ignition will work with minimal wiring skills.

The ignition switch has a code on it under the black tape - there is a thread on this forum somewhere that details how you get a duplicate key using that code.

The fuel cap is easy to take apart and move tumblers around to make it work with any key.....or no tumblers at all so that it just acts as a latch and any key will work.

If you get a key to fit the ignition....you only need to find a fuel cap that the key will slide into, then you can finagle the tumblers to work.

There are several fuel cap/ign swith/key combinations for sale on eBay if you don't want to fuss around getting keys made.

Gary, when I bought my first Savage it was from a Harley Dealer. They had lost the keys and when I went to pick-up bike they offered a $100.00 refund to take it anyway, which I did. It was very easy to remove ignition switch which I took to a local locksmith in Middletown, NJ.  Next day he called and had had key figured out and 3 keys for me. Charged me less than $50.00 for doing it and the keys.

I removed my switch and found a fair amount of corrosion on the contacts (I forget that my bike was an outside bike before I acquired it). A quick clean-up with contact cleaner and lube with dielectric grease and it’s as good as new. I don’t need a new cap and ignition set.

But I still have an electrical gremlin in the system and I think I have traced it to the ground wire at the solenoid or the solenoid itself. I lose all electrical power when I engage the start button and it doesn’t return until I jiggle the harness that leads to the solenoid.

Thanks for the replies
