Title: Front Forks?
Post by miatamarty on 06/05/23 at 10:58:36

Reading my Clymers manual. Haven't looked yet but they said there are no drains in the fork legs. If you want to change your fork oil for whatever reason you have to basically disassemble the front end. If that's true, IVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING SO STUPID IN MY LIFE!!!!!! If true has anybody tried drilling and tapping drain holes? I'm new to this bike having been 20 years without one. Every single bike I've owned in the past had drains(had 11 bikes).

Yes, drill, tap, insert screw w/ sealing washer.
You will need to measure down the inside of the tube to determine how far down the outside you need to go to drill.  I know; my first hole turned out about 2 “ high.  Lesson learned.  Measure accurately.
Hole size I think is ~ 3/8” range.  My first drilling was too small as well so went larger for better drainage after that.

Ive never seen a set of forks with drains.  That must be some classics.  Every set of forks Ive had since my 70 CB750 all have to be drained from the top.

And usually the sliders and components need to be looked at, at the same time.

How far down did you have to go to drill? Measuring down from say the top of the slider where the seals are. Thanks for measuring

For something I'll do once every 10 years or so, tipping it over is easy.

I agree with Versy.  Not that hard to take off the front brake, axle, and wheel.  They all need tinkering, just some in different ways than others.

My CB900 has fork drains. I prefer to dump and pump.

Spammy,
Worked in a few bike shops in the 70s/80s. Virtually all the bikes had drain plugs on the forks back then. I’ll bet my lunch money your 750 Honda had them.
