Title: The poor savage
Post by SpamyToo on 01/24/23 at 07:55:12

Man this forum used to be ablaze with posts about mods, questions, and tips.

Its piddled out to a post a week with just 5 people having input.

Kinda sad.  Poor little savage is dying out isnt it.

Just like the last YABB forum on the internet, he he.

My tracker project has gotten stalled.  Too many other things going on.  The bottom end of the motor needs to be cleaned and painted, but it's too cold to paint anything.   :(

Yeah it ain’t what it used to be. I still like it here , I hate Facebook Twitter etc. It’s still the best forum around !

I check in daily to see what is going on, but don't usually respond to the questions that are always asked...not because I can't be bothered...but to give the new members or those whose skills are improving a chance to participate. I'm a member of many bike forums, and on one in particular one member (a mod) controls the conversations. Even if you give a correct answer...he has to correct you by repeating what you just said - very annoying.

I'm with you Ruttly, I prefer forums over facebook. Facebook tends to be noise - whereas real solutions are provided (and archived) on forums.

Facebook?  What's that?

I have a few posts I've been working on.  Just have to get off my backside and do it.  Maybe as the weather warms up members will be more in the mood for swappin info.  Would sure hate to see the old girl give up the ghost.

I just handed my spare head and valve cover to my vapor hone guy to do his magic. Once its done, I’ll be begging DBM to do some of his magic on the ports. One of the next steps is to sort out the title (long story).
I expect it to be fully roadworthy this summer.
I moved two years ago, and it almost killed me. Took til very recently to feel human again.
Yup, the list is pretty quiet.
I think the world is changing. Puttering now means mounting an IPhone bracket, or farting around with something electronic on your phone.
I was at the garage recently watching two clowns trying to put a titanium exhaust on a Duc. The owner’s main concern was that it be as loud as possible. They had the cameras ready for a YouTube or TicTock documentary, but didn’t own a long #2 Phillips screwdriver.  My guess is that they couldn’t wipe their butts without a YouTube video.
Needless to say, they never finished.

Long stories usually cost $$. I had a title issue on a SR500 I built , never again , no title no buy unless it’s something special. Even then title gets fixed before anything else does. Some states it’s easy , not here in CA.
Wish you luck.

I think we are just experiencing a holiday lull. The S40 is still in production too.

Ha ha Mike.  You dont have posts, you release epic novels. ha ha

You have breathed a lot of life back into this forum in the last 4 years or so.

Nevada is not friendly when it comes to registering vehicles without a title.  My Savage doesn't have one.  Bill of sale only.  To register it I need to call a separate phone number (can't do it through the regular DMV office) and put the vehicle on a "bond title" for 3 years.  I do not know how much that costs yet.  But during that 3 years the vehicle cannot be sold outside of the state of Nevada.  If you sell it, it will stay on that bond title until the three year term expires.  I should have started this process a year ago when I decided to build this bike, but have been dragging my feet.

I’m going to do the Vermont title thing. Supposedly easy.

its winter time so most people have their bikes in hibernation.

Not a lot of people riding during winter, but this winter is pretty mild, I'm riding almost daily.

We have lived here for 5 years, and all of our long term neighbors are telling us this is a once in 20 year winter.  Nine atmospheric rivers came across CA and NV in less than two months.   :o

It's 30 degrees in my garage, I can't feel my fingertips, wait for spring !
Cheers!  8-)

I've been in this house about 20 years and this is the 2nd time I've filled my pool with rain.  Not that I empty it every year.  So, for me it's more like once in 10 years.

It’s been wet , only 3 times I’ve had to pump water out of backyard 3 times in 20 years. I can just imagine what you deal with up there. Very cool pic of Tahoe never seen it from that view, better hope it don’t spring a leak ! Golf course down the street lost at least 30 trees in those storms. Doesn’t help when above ground pool is overflowing too !

I ride every weekend, unless it rains. it rarely gets down to freezing in Houston.

I have owned my savage for 20 years, I am now 38 years old. It was the first thing I spent any money on when I went out on my own. I must admit I feel partially responsible for the lull in this forum. I stopped riding about 7 years ago because the carb needed to be rebuilt and, well, then I bought a couple houses and had a couple kids. I am looking forward to getting my bike back on the road soon and being more active here on the internet's greatest forum.

I do still think there is a lot of love out there for the savage (ls650, s40....) but forums are not what they used to be in general. YouTube seems to be the go to source for most people these days. Maybe time I started a savage specific youtube channel?
