Title: BIKE WONT START. FOUND DISCONNECTED WIRES.
Post by Ikarus on 12/24/22 at 10:13:06

Hello everyone and thank you for being a part of such an amazing resource. I got my first bike a 1995 savage. It was running great for about 2 weeks and then it wouldn't start. Found out the docomp relay had gone bad and so I removed it and jumped the cable from the clutch safety to the starter relay. That got something happening but now the bike tried to start but can't. I hear it struggling then two or three clicks from the back of the bike and it goes off. I took a reading from the battery and it reads 12.08 which I know is no good. I hooked it up to my car and still won't start but the reading from the battery are going up slowly. The battering is also making this intermitted beeping sound.

I also found 3 black and white wires disconnected under the seat. I'm guessing these are grounds but not sure what I should do about them. Should i just connect them all to each other?

let me know if you guys have any steps i should take first. Im guessing the battery might be bad or the disconnected cables are the cause of everything. Thanks again.

Here are some pics of the wires.

Do you think you accidentally knocked wires loose?
Or they spontaneously happened?
Coupla things

It Was running.
And Nothing, aside from the petcock, throws people like the battery. It's Hot or it's liable to not start.
The rubber in the petcock goes bad. IDK how cold It is where you are, but cold is hard on batteries And rubber gets stiff.
You can grab a plug, pull the plug wire, hook it to your spare plug, set it up and check spark. Pulling the plug removes the burden of fighting compression, you can get a spark because the starter isn't working hard.
IF you pull the plug, clean out around it first so dirt doesn't fall in the cylinder.
Put the petcock on Prime,
See how it goes.
It can be informative to drain the bowl and See if the petcock is delivering.
I keep ether handy when an engine is being difficult to get lit off.
Minimize the beating on starters and batteries.
A place where moderation is good.
