Title: Left Side Cover, 2000
Post by LPHRN on 10/08/22 at 16:15:00

Left Side Covers.
Everyone wants one, no one has one.
I have heard some say Suzuki just put in one few screws.
Worse, they are not available from the factory either.  Bummer.

So, I will make someone this deal.  If you happen to have your left side cover handy from your (about) 2000 Savage, I will pay you $10 to trace around it on a piece of paper.  Make a mark where the present screw hole is.  Also trace around a quarter, and send me the sheet.  Tell me about how tall the cover is (I never saw mine, it was missing when I bought the bike.)

I am going to 3D print one.  I am tired of having the bike look nice on the right side, and guts hanging out on the left.  Even if it has to be plain black that would be an improvement.

I can do Zelle, and look forward to hearing from you.

Pix are great, but it is hard to get the dimensions to print it so it will fit.

But if you have some, yes, please send!

Oh, and to clarify my earlier post, I don't need the hard copy, just a scan or a picture of the tracing is fine.

I made pics with rulers so... scale as required.

Hah! I was just about to ask if anyone has 3d printed the side covers, I haven't been able to find anything on Thingiverse or any such site. If you do model one that fits, even if it's boxy and not pretty, can you please post it here somewhere? I just want something to cover the electronics on the left side. Something matching for the right side as well would just be a bonus.  :)

LPHRN did you ever get this made?   If so is there any chance you could share the 3d print file?

No, I didn't make it.  Yet.  It is bigger than my printer's print volume, so I would have to do it in 2 pieces (or get a bigger printer!).

I assure you all, when I have done it I will publish the files.

In the meantime, if someone has a left side cover and would be willing to take it off and trace around the perimeter, then send a picture of it, that would be fantastic!  Please also trace around a quarter and include it for accurate sizing.

I will be waiting to see these files.   My printer might be big enough to do it in one but I'm honestly not sure.   Thank you for doing the lords work over there.

Are you looking for the body cover below the seat?  Is a 1997 the same as your 2000?  Here's a photo of my bike, tell me if that looks right, and if so, I'll have a go at 3D scanning it for you and then you can have an STL to use as a start for your printed part.

Yes that's the exact one.   Please scan it.   If I'm not mistaken I think they were all the same.  Idk if they ever changed the design of that part.

This is pretty cool guys.  The mods should consider moving this to "Rubberside Down!"

I scanned the RH cover today so you can have both of them to try to replicate.

Buy a used one on E.Bay and paint it your favorite flavor of cherry red.  One bike I bought, the dude must have been a carpenter or wood carver.  It looked like crap, but I bet he was proud of it!

Where's the fun in just buying one when you can have a project that will take you days and cost you XXX% more?   :)

After all, you've been changing carburetors and exhausts and stuff on your bike when you could just buy one of the new Ducati Hyper singles for $13K and avoid all the fooling around.

I sent the STL's for both covers to Greg.  They probably need some tweaking before they are printed and if he does that he can post those versions here or I can host them on my website if they are too large.  If he doesn't have any luck cleaning them up then I'll put the raw files on my motoconstructor.com website to share for anyone who might want to fiddle with them.

Naaa.  $70 for a PWK38 carb, air filter, and jets needed to get the bike running, and I have a $40 dyna muffler in my back pocket for later.  The SuperTrapp muffler came off a parts bike - I had to understand how that thing worked.  It got sold on E.Bay.

A simplified battery box would be cool while your messin’ with side covers!  Or how about ONE big side cover for everything!?  Put it on a swinging gate with a keyless latch!  Paint it black of course and put a #69 on it!

Sorry.  I’m a bit punchy and bitchy.  No power for 3 days now following Hurricane Beryl.  Trying to get by with a small generator and small window AC unit when the heat index is like 105°!  Finally getting a little better cell phone service back and ability to communicate with the outside world!

Well, I for one am very excited with the work that is being done here by Michael Moore and Thumper Paul.

Can't wait to see this happen.  I'll bet a lot of us need a left side cover.

I got the files that were sent to me I just haven't had time to sit down and mess with them to get them to a cleaned up file to try a test print.   I'm going to try and get to them later this week.

Any updates on how this prints? I would love to give it shot if someone can shoot the stl my way.

I have received some files, but I have not found anyone who could print them for me.

And, truthfully, I have been busy with other things as well.

I will redouble my efforts to at least see if I can get them printed and let the group know.

I'd also like to give printing this a shot - I'm experienced with CAD/3D modeling and have my own printers if anyone would send the file my way. Happy to share the results/any modifications made as well!

If you would like, I can send you the files I received.  I know they are not manifold, but that is easily fixed.

Let me know how best to get them to you.

Thanks! I can fix them up easily - either a PM or an email to my username @gmail.com would be fine.
