Title: Engine stops/lose power and then starts again!
Post by WilmerDK on 05/25/22 at 00:47:01

Hi

On my way to work, after 1 hour on the highway, around 110-120 km/t, whit ca. 4500 RPM.
The engine suddenly dies and lose power. I stop and the bike will not start, I gave it choker, and the bike starts again, and runs again. But now the RPM is around 5000 RPM, the engine got power as before, and runs normal.
The bike runs 10 min. and the same happen, but this time the bike didn't shut down. It just lose power and after a few second it runs normal again.

Any ideas on the issue?

The bike is a 98 and got 57.000 km on the clock.

Do you still have the stock vacuum operated petcock?

Sounds like fuel starvation...as Dave points out start at the petc0ck and check all lines for obstructions.  That's my 2cents.

Yup, this is where the stock petcock dies by hardening and cracking of the diaphragm.

And at this mileage, I hope you've checked the cam chain!
