Title: Push button resistance
Post by danyboy on 04/23/22 at 11:38:40

Bike won't start . Checked ignition switch, fuses are ok. Push button gives a reading of 199 ohms when I push it in. Is that normal ?

That particular switch has two sets of contacts.

One set of contacts is closed when the button is not pushed in.  That set controls power to the headlight.  It turns off the light during the "start" operation to reserve more power for ignition and starter motor etc.  So, when the button is pushed in, those contacts open.

The other set is closed when the button is pushed in.  That set connects power to the starter system.

Make sure you are checking continuity across the correct set of contacts.  When the contacts are closed, they should read zero ohms (or very close to zero).  Your reading (199 ohms) is way too high.

If you decide to open it up, sweep the floor. I used towels so if I dropped a Tiny part it couldn't bounce and run away.
Sweep up so if something manages to get away you can get low and see Something sticking up, and it's not something you should have swept up.
Good luck,
