Yes, the VM carbs work very well on our big singles.  Before the factories started using the CV carbs the VM 34/36/38 were extensively used by the factories for big singles.  Years ago I had a 1956 BSA Goldstar 500 flat track racing bike with a 38mm VM type carb and it ran like a Screaming Eagle and topped out at 110mph as geared for the 1 mile dirt oval tracks.   It was VERY quick.
The VM is the most used performance carb for motorcycles in the world, and has been for over 50 years, and is still being produced today.  It is inexpensive and it works.
I’ve been using mine for over 15 years.  My bike fires right up without using the choke except on cold winter days.  The VM is much more responsive and will add power.  It is also easy to tune.

Hey Lancer, I'm interested in getting one set up for the savage from you. This is my first post so I'm unable to send you a private message at the moment.

Thanks, Brett.

Without a throttle cable the kit is $329 + $80 shipping = $409
