Title: Active Noise Control
Post by Dave on 05/09/21 at 04:19:42

I stumbled across a video that shows that some new Ford vehicles have Active Noise Control.  Evidently there are 3 microphones inside the vehicle that "listen" to the sounds inside the vehicle, and then the speakers are made to emit cancelling sounds to reduce the level of those undesirable sounds.

That is a good idea - but where it gets a bit weird is they also use the system to add cool engine sounds!  When you get on the throttle the speakers make "Vrooom" sounds that are added!

I seriously believe this should be added to the current Harley Davidson line of motorcycles.......the sound could be broadcast through the speakers in the fairing and the owners wouldn't have to install loud mufflers!

Some one sold device that plugged in to the cigrette lighter  I mean power plug. (showing my age)  That sampled the pulsating dc off the alternator , It had a speaker and made "Ferrari noises" matching the engine speed.

Nope.  Eventually they will notice that no one is looking at them when they blip the throttle 5 or 6 times when rolling to a stop.

I test drove a Buick with a Bose noise cancelling sound system and an acoustic windshield.  It was a very pleasant experience.  I was surprised by how well it works and how noisy my own car is by comparison.  It mostly cancels out the wind and tire noise and allowed most, maybe all, of the engine sounds.

I remember looking at a Dodge about 10 years ago with an associate and he remarked that there was no way we were hearing that engine through that firewall.

He was right.  I never bought the car but I read somewhere later that they had added the engine sounds artificially.

Okay,, I think I see where this technology is going to be seen.

It's a way to create a fake happy moment that people will buy.

What is the fakest of fake happy moment?

Yeah,, with the right program they can make her giggle and moan when you nibble that plastic ear..

If you remember these AND you had one (or two or three) when you were a kid, you were cool!
