Of course, it doesn’t matter that Trump’s defense was a train wreck, or his guilt obvious- after 4 years of hitching their wagon to the traitor, a significant portion of Republican Senators are determined to follow him off the cliff.... which is really what this trial is about.

That was a rough opening for the defense.

 The rest was ok though.

I am interested in the outcome but don't really care what it is.  I think over time there will be some sort of amending to confirm that a sitting President in his last week of office can or can't do whatever he wants with impunity.

By an Amendment to the Constitution?   You.... think that is possible... in this country... in the near future?   Are you banking on the GOP collapse leaving a fragmented, marginalized, and diminished “conservative” block?

It seems to me we’re in an elevator where progress upward may be stymied by the occupants, and those standing in a place of Gerrymandered and Electoral College privilege nearer the controls have developed a culture celebrating the emergency stop button and descent.

Regardless, there is no need for a clarifying Amendment- as Trump’s legal team made abundantly clear in their surrender to the Manager’s case yesterday.

The Manager’s case as presented today has been, on whole, compelling and dammning.    What’s most gobsmacking is the question has required prolonged debate.  Uncertain as to the utility of such a trial in the presence of Republican Senators predetermined not hold hold Trump to account, I now see clearly the importance and value of drawing a line for  Representatives to choose a side to stand on, and to provide a concise record for future generations wondering what actually happened, how the Republic and its people could be brought so low.

I don't think this should be tried in congress... they are all victims and can not be impartial.

I believe a review of the record demonstrates at least  a few not to be victims,  but co-conspirators, and the greater threat of partisanship in complicity.   Besides, to find non-impacted judges, you'd have to look abroad, since all we Citizens are victims.

I don't believe any of the senate are impartial.
This can only be tried in the supreme court.

The Constitution is explicitly clear the Senate is the venue.   The fantastic suggestion would have 3 Trump appointees sitting in judgement; if impartiality is your concern, that extra-legal recourse is no remedy.

Practically, when crimes are so heinous as to offend our basic sense of right and wrong, impartiality isn't possible.   The greater threat comes from those lacking this quality.

I think this will just be a political decision process, not a facts decision process.
