Title: Mask Warning
Post by Dave on 01/16/21 at 05:10:13

I wanted to let you know about a few issues that appear to be related to wearing masks as required to comply with the Covid mandates.

Over Christmas we spent time with my brother and sister in law.  They are both dentists and oral surgeons in Florida.  They said that the masks are not allowing Bacteria to escape your of your mouth, and they have seen an increase in the number of cavities and gum disease recently.

Also - a few months ago Deb got a stye in her left eye......it is her first one ever.  I have never had one - then last week I got one in each eye, and last night I found out my nephew just got one.  I looked up the cause of getting a stye, and the cause is bacteria - the article I read said that often the cause is getting mucus on your fingers and rubbing your eye.

Last night Deb and I went out to dinner, and while putting my mask on I noticed that I place the mask on top of my nose, then as I was pulling the straps over my ears I noticed the mask slid up and touched my eye lids!  Eureka - I believe I found out why we are getting the styes!  The masks have bacteria from our nose and mouths and if they come into contact with the eye lids - they can transfer the bacteria.  It may also be that exhaling can blow some bacteria upwards toward the eyes.

So - be careful with your masks and make sure they don't touch your eyelids!  Wash your mask regularly if you are using a cloth mask....change it regularly if you are using a disposable paper mask.

WOW!
I had an eye infection in BOTH eyes last week and have no history of eye infections or styes.  EUREKA!

I followed some online suggestions in the absence of going to the doctor. The one that worked for me was washing my eye area for 15 seconds twice a day (or as available) with baby shampoo. Worked for me!

Thanks Dave.
I'm certainly being careful. I haven't had one on since about a month after the hysteria. I started out by just not going to town for a Coupla weeks, then I put it on and went to the store, probably wore one four or five times, Then I just started walking past the signs and the Hall Monitors, ignoring them. I was the only Adult in the store without a mask. For Months, now I'm rarely the only one.
Full disclosure
I've had to leave a few places.
That's fine with me.

A little trick I learned with the kitchen sponge should do the trick.
I leave them on the kitchen window where they will get direct sunlight.
This kills all the bacteria they collect and they don't stink.

Should do the same thing with the masks.

We are in the middle of winter here in KY.  Our sun is weak and infrequent this time of year!

Sure, I got a room for you and you can cook.
And it'll only be a 6 hr drive to see you kid.

We had 27.......and some snow.

I spent the day hiding in the garage.  I cleaned off adhesive from used wheel weights, sorted through lots of old cans of cleaner and waxes, hung some old road signs on the walls, posted a few things for sale on Craigslist, and just generally stayed inside all day.

It was cold and blustery here yesterday but we did have sun so I spent half a day hauling and stacking wood and then a trek around the place.  It felt good with the cold fresh air.

Thanks Versey !  :)

If Marcia finds out your only 6 hours away from her young "Air-Man" then I  won't be able to get pointed in your direction without her !   ;D

Cooking for a roof over my head could really work for a day or two  !    ;)
..............................

We've had a cold , bone chilling type of wind the last few days.   It kinda takes the fun out of being outdoors.

But

Today the wind turned to be from the South !!!  :)  !!!
That usually means Warm then Wet Weather is coming up from the gulf !   8-)

This is interesting.  Can you see if there is a way to share the metrics on this?  Given some professions wear face coverings most of the work day there should be some correlation.
