Title: GS450 Shafty - GS550
Post by Charming Snake on 01/12/21 at 16:54:28

Hey all, was wondering if anyone knows if a GS450 shaft driven would fit in a GS550 frame.
Looking to maybe get a hard tail kit made for GS550 from Lowbrow Customs.
Also was kinda thinking about maybe finding a cheap GS450 frame and seeing if I could chop it with out the kit for practice.
Anyone done this before?

Below is a link to the hard tail kit

You do realize that this is a forum dedicated to the S40/LS650. It would seem as though your current bike is a GS.

Betcha somebody here knows a part of the answer, though.

Involves cutting off mounting tabs and welding on new ones ........

Wait a minute guys ...

The GS450 wasn't a shaft drive was it ???

:-?

Dang !  it was !!  In only one version

That weld on hard tail is made for the chain-drive version ... and ... you'll have to change the lines of the bike to match the angle on the hard tail or you'll end-up with a "funky looking mess"  .

Whats wrong with leaving it in a 450 frame ?  :-? :-?

You do realize your contemplating digging a money pit ?

Hay C Snake , let us see pictures as you go along .    You know , most of us have more than one bike ... some of the guys  even have more than one Savage/S-40 plus another bike ! .   ;D

I think the biggest hurdle is going to be the length of the HT.  You can't adjust the length of the shaft drive like you can with a chain.
