Yosemite if you can , it’s is truly a wonder and I believe one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Hearst Castle if you can , a gross display wealth from way back when.
Call ahead to see if they are open
South Lake Tahoe
Gold Country
Railroad museum in Old Sac & Old Sac is cool too

All of those are great things to see.  On our last trip to Sac Paula and I spent time in old town Sac and the Railroad Museum, which is especially interesting.  The 2nd largest steam engine ever built in the US is there.  IT IS HUGE.

We're staying in Maryville and its really nice here.

Today we went to downtown Sccramento to see the capital today.   It was a mess.

There was homeless folks everywhere.   There was tolet paper on the streets everywhere there was homeless folks !   :-[

Tomorrow (Monday) We can branch out another direction ?

We came out here so we could spend another week with our son , he reports to his new base tomorrow.    Marcia and I are staying till Friday then driving back to Tn.
I don't know yet if son can hang-out after work on base - with us after he checks in or not ?
This time tomorrow I'll know !  ;)

Hay , we could go visit your "Old Home Place" and send you a picture !   ;)

post or message the address and we'll check it out for ya .  :)
............................................

So , was your dad or mom AF ?

We went to FOOD-MAX after son went to base so I'm cooking dinner in the one gallon electric (skillet/pot-cooker) for tonight now.  Like a cross between a slow cooker with electric skillet type heat source.

Slow cooked 1in thick beef Sirloin browned in butter
Those little pealed Baby carrots
Little - whole yellow taters
All seasoned with Brown-sugar-Burbon seasoning.
Buttered bread-rolls
Served with chilled apple juice to sip on.
:P

Wish you could be here ... we'll have to throw the left-overs out couse the fridge is too small !   ::)

Dinner was good.
.....................................

We went to SanFranciso today to ride across the Golden Gate , Ride down the Crooked Street , Ride down/up the crazzy street crossing , the prision island ,and visit Fishermans Wharf .
So when I was there in 1973 there was a fish market at the wharf , now its a Park of some kind and it would have cost $15.oo to walk around it ... but I have a Senior pass to federal parks.  I also have a ex millitary ID .   Either of them is a get-in-free pass.
.........................................

We had lunch at one of the resturants down by the Wharf and it was nice.

Post by MMRanch on 11/25/20 at 21:51:30

Ya'll know I had to drive the big boat they had parked at the Wharf .  ::)

It really was a Big Boat !  :)

Title: Re: Sacramento

I might have found my next Truck while we were on one of the boats ?

Post by MMRanch on 11/25/20 at 22:05:37

The one with the old cars/trucks was fixed up like 1930's

Post by MMRanch on 11/25/20 at 22:20:38

We left SanFransico and went up the coast Hwy#1 for a sun-set view.   Getting to the top of the clif to see the sun go down was like a Dragon run.  It was just as long or longer than 11 miles , and reminded me of "Pig-Pin-Gap" in north Ga.

"Wolf Pen Gap".........

Looks like you had good weather and and avoided the crowds.

Did you get to participate in any 10 lane traffic jams?

Title: Re: Sacramento
Post by LANCER on 11/26/20 at 06:14:41

Dave, you are talking about “10 lanes on each side” aren’t you ?

Mike, I absolutely agree with your choice in trucks.
I love the style of 30’s-40’s do the usefulness of a flatbed this size.

Yep, it’s a 5 Thumber alright.

Yea , it was about 1630 when we were leaving !  :-[   We just had to visit one of the sidewalk cafes in the area - being as how we don't visit the place very often ... last time I was there was 1973 and Marcia and Anders had never seen the place.

Our jeep has navigation built in so it routed us around the main jam , but it still took us 30 minutes to get out of San Francisco and onto Hwy 1 , Then on Hwy 1 it took about 30 minutes to clear the tight area.  We got on top the cliff over the ocean , parked and into a place to watch , just 15 minutes before the sun went down.   :)
...........................

Wolf pen is a better name , after the traffic jam stuff "pig" seemed like a better word at the time ?   ::)    The coast hwy. was really full of some really tight twist's for a long way !  :)    We'll come back in the truck with the bike in the back.   Anders is stationed here for the next two years .   ;)

Marcia says "I'm not ridding that road on the bike ! "  ...  We'll see next summer ?   ;D

That would be worth a ride up the coast.  We'll have to arrange something.   8-)

I'd love too !  8-)
...................................

We're going "RED-WOOD" hunting in a few minutes .

Maybe we can do more redwood hunting next summer too ?
.............................

We have to leave for home in the morning.   I'm thinking the Southern Route ?

It seems the Norther (Yellow-Stone" might be better in June ?

Is your house close to I-40 ?

There's a whole mountain range between me and the I40.
I live near the crossroads of I210 and I605.

I'd have to drive 2 hrs just to catch you in Bakersfield or Barstow.

Post by MMRanch on 11/26/20 at 22:32:14

Maybe we can visit next summer ?    We're about ready to go home the short way .

We went to see Redwoods today and found Hwy. CA-20 east of Fort Bragg CA. on the way home.

Between Fort Bragg CA. and US101 on CA-20 is like "40 miles of Dragon run"

:)

Welcome Home !

Here is a picture of an old note pad .   You might have to enlarge it to see read it ... you might have to study a foreign language to read it too ?  :-?

Anyway it is in the Painted Desert.

Looks like a pretty large tree someone lost in the desert.  Bet they have been looking for that thing for a long time now !

Climate change ? ?
Maybe a wee bit warmer then than now ... or colder, than we experience.
Or perhaps it was drowned in the BIG FLOOD.

I got a bill in the mail for crossing the Golden Gate Bridge , What a surprise !

If there was a sign about a charge for driving on their bridge I never saw it.   So who would pay it  /  who would pitch it in the fire ?

Title: Re: Sacramento
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 12/16/20 at 23:26:46

Send it back with a signed statement. Tell them you don't owe them anything.
Dispute the bill or it becomes a legal debt for sure.
I never paid the red light tickets but I sent them letters.
Just exactly who is demanding money?

Well, there is a toll.  As to signage, I could see why you'd missed it.
This is from 2019 and now I don't know what it is.

Title: Re: Sacramento
Post by MMRanch on 12/17/20 at 16:30:37

By time the sign comes up there is no option but to go through one of the slots.

I was stationed at Fort Presidio  (San Francisco) in 1973 and went across the bridge every day.   So when we started on the Bridge  I was expecting a trip across just like any other Hwy.

So , there isn't any turning off/around/exit once the "Charging" is introduced.   If there was a choice I would have turned around rather than agreeing to pay to use a public road.   Its more the feeling of "Agreeing to be raped" thing , than it is any amount of $$$.

It's sort of like taking a ferry boat ride across the river , you make a choice to pay or not .    The way the bridge is , there is no choice once you get going and no warning before ya get on.   Don't seem right to me .

Like being "Swindled"

Title: Re: Sacramento
Post by Ruttly on 12/19/20 at 11:56:28

Soon all of the Bay Area bridges will have no toll plaza. If you don’t have a fast trak account you will receive a bill. Not even a lane for cash payers. All in a effort to increase the flow of traffic and do away with the toll takers jobs. And for non payers they put a hold on driver’s license renewal and/or vehicle registration renewal until fees are paid. Progressive California . Used to be more people moved to California than moved out but that is no longer true ! MM your rental car company probably ratted you out    ;D

Just heard in the last day or two that HP is moving to Texas.
There goes a lot of taxes out of the state.

My mom used to work for HP in the ‘60’s, back when they had a company picnic each summer in the hills around Santa Cruz it seems, lots to do, everything was free, tons of food, Bill Hewlitt and Dave Packard visiting with everyone there.  They were nice folks.
