Title: Using a Harley belt for the Savage.
Post by Britbiker76 on 09/25/20 at 09:35:54

Hi I am a newbie here, have just bought a Savage, live in Canterbury UK. Parts are not easy to come by here, I am looking for a drive belt to keep as a spare [my present belt seems ok] I was shocked at the price of a new belt [around £300] I read the thread on converting to chain which would be an option but would prefer to keep the belt drive if I can afford it! My question is ... has anyone tried using a Harley belt with the same spec. as the Suzuki belt, ie. 133 teeth 1 1/2 inches wide and 14mm pitch, as they are around half the price of a Suzuki belt. I know the teeth on the Harley belts are a different profile but wondered if this is a possibility? ...thanks..

I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the tension is correct and the belt and pulleys are aligned, the belt will last as long as the bike will. It should easily last 100,000 miles if properly cared for.

Just dont run it too tight and avoid gravel roads,,

The Savage has rectangular teeth on the belt.....the Harley uses teeth with a rounded profile.

Even though the width and pitch is the same - the belts are not interchangeable and the Harley belt cannot be used on the Savage.

I've never tried using rounded teeth on a square tooth pulley but if you try it be careful.
