Title: California is burning
Post by Ruttly on 09/09/20 at 19:06:45

What seems like end times here in CA , Covid , unemployment , fires , etc.
Thousands of homes gone , thick choking smoke , raining ash , countless evacuated , power shut offs. Prayers for the evacuated to have a home to come back to. Many still missing , not sure how many are dead. Pray for rain and please donate to American Red Cross. This state needs all the help it can right now. I've never seen it like this before , it real bad !

I think our paradise status is long gone ! Years ago ! Now it's just overpriced and overtaxed. Moving out o state when I retire , somewhere cheaper. Someplace quiet , where people are friendly , oh yeah and lots of twisty roads.

I'm in CA now, it's not pleasant that's for sure.

Never seen smoke this thick for this long before.

I can't take my eyes off then news reports.
Looks other worldly..
Even saw visual comparisons to the Blade Runner film.

We have hazy skies all the way over here from the fires.
Unbelievable...

Stay safe out there.
Weird times...

Maybe if the decided to use reasonable forest management policies again  they couold limit some of the pain..
Seems to me when I was a kid they used to send people in with equipment and clear fire breaks, burn out brush, drop and drag dead stuff,,

JOG, it is too much to ask for the elected officials to use common sense. If only the people that elect these morons would use common sense!!

Ruttly, I'm glad to hear you are leaving that place when you retire.

Our prayers are with you.

Oklahoma’s cost of living is low compared to most.  But, most anywhere in the south is that way.  Heck, you could get a place on the Gulf Coast beaches.  THEy are dirt cheap compared to the W & NE coasts...and Florida.

It's gotten really smoky here since last night.
Winds were supposed to pick up last night but didn't.
It's a little breezy now, but not bad.

I'll trade you,... two tornadoes and a hurricane for a forest fire...  ;D

I find it interesting that there is enough smoke layer to create a continuous sunset atmosphere where only the red, red/orange wavelengths can be seen.

I don't know what the ratio is to have enough atmosphere for reds, but it's enough in lot of places now.

Well my basement has flooded 3 times in the past month. Maybe California and I can work out a deal?  :D

It's been smokey here for 3 weeks everyday and raining ash most of the time. I hate this year , when will all this bad stuff end ? Flu season around the corner , the hits keep coming. Praying for rain and good health for all !

I would say welcome to 2020, but it's always like that on the left coast!!

I always say it's a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.  Then when I visit, I don't want to come home!!!

It's like "Hotel California" out there, (except when it's burning up, shaking, sliding...) ;)

A very depressing situation with the smoke maybe a mile visibility at best , nothing changes well sometimes it gets worse. My world got a whole lot darker , had to put down my Best friend of almost 14 years , the most faithful dog I’ve had.

Ruttly:

Sorry about your loss......that is the hardest part about owning a dog.

We had our dog Sarah for 14 years, and it was so hard when we had to let her go.

We waited for almost 2 years before the next dog found us.  Lily is almost 5 and is the best dog we have ever had.  Lily is most likely the last dog we will have, as she ages we will be aging as well......we will be geezers when it is time for her to go.  (We might be ready to go as well by then).
