You may be able to adapt one for a different model if you can't find one that is made specifically for the Savage. Years ago a few companies sold a universal fit guard that came with an assortment of clamps and u-bolts to fit nearly anything. I don't know if such things are still available any more, haven't looked in ages.

Thanks, I'll keep looking, the oem one is really small and doesn't offer much
protection at all.

Build one?

Maybe find a welder who would?

If i really want one that looks like the way, or modify the small oem one. thanks for your reply

modify the small oem one

Heck yeah,, never crossed my mind,, but adding length in the middle of the top and bottom tubes would be a LOT easier and cheaper than building one from zero,,
IDK if powder coating would satisfy you or if it will even stay on chrome,, maybe have it sand blasted,, heck,, powder coaters do that anyway I think,,
You may have stumbled on a pretty easy answer,,

I'm going to look into it, will let all know what I find out. I guess the Wingerline guards are discontinued from what I gather on the forum.

IDK where EEgore is right now,, he must be off on some mission somewhere, but he really did a test on guards,, I dont remember what kind or what he learned,, but you could drop him a line and ask him if he knows anything that owuld help ya decide.

He made a recent post in tall table.

The engine guards were on an older Harley 883 and we were testing welds of two different methods on each side.  Not sure if I ever posted it here but man the previous owner was pissed.  Why did he even sell it if he was still attached?

Anyway, I have never had one made for the Savage although I think its a good idea.  I unfortunately am not a lot of help here but a member did once attach a 2007 Honda Rebel bar onto a Savage with minimal custom mods.

Page 44 of the Savage photos thread show it.  The setup he used looks like it would hold-up and keep the bike off your leg, although a simple post could do the same.  I guess it is just a balance between looks and function as to what you will want to toss on your bike.  Don't go cheap on the connection points or its going to fold/bend up on you.

Thanks, Thats a good looking and functional bar he did, I will keep that in mind, might look into modding one of the OEM suzuki mini-bar. :D

When connecting tubes, finding a tube or slug that fits inside and crosses the joint is never a bad plan,

Not sure if I ever posted it here but man the previous owner was pissed..

You were draggin a Harley?

I dont even Like Harleys and I consider that near sacrilege.
I dont Dislike them,, but theyre kinda part of American culture,, I wouldnt feel comfortable riding one,, too heavy.. but I like seein them,,

Ohh,, dragged down a road,, a tear? is that a tear in my eye?

"You were draggin a Harley?"

Sort of.  We were dropping the front end from a trailer at speed, the rear tire on the pavement in tow, then release the front tire from the trailer at the appropriate time.

Best simulation of a bike laying over we had at the time.

Killjoy..

But what did ya learn? I KNOW Ive asked, and Im sure you answered, and if its a pain, or a hassle,, its cool if ya just dont bother..

I believe there is video from someone's cellphone, I will see about retrieving it.

Crash bars typically hold up pretty well unless the pipe is too thin walled, then it can fold/bend at speed and pin your leg.  This is rare, but I've seen it a few times when I worked in the ER.

Other issues are bolts that are cheap or too small on the custom builds.  An example is the custom assembly I referenced here where he bolted the bars on the bottom.  If those are too small they will snap when the bike hits the ground at speed.

The top connection looks good, but requires the lower to stay in place or it could "roll" so to speak around that center connection point on the frame.  For the most part the referenced setup looks good to me.

As for our experiment we were testing a gold colored weld process against a standard one.  The gold held up for the fun drop tests, but under true stress testing it would break sooner.

Understood about the thin wall and insufficient mounting hardware. There's a local bike  shop that does some custom and fab work, I plan on asking him to look at modding the OEM suzuki. I'm hoping the install points can remain the same, but wider to cover foot pegs and pedals.

I imagine the OEM bars can just be extended near their connection points without much issue.  I'd give it a shot.
