The flu hit the british, german and french soldiers who were in the trenches maybe as much as a year earlier, but since those 3 were at war and that news will hurt the recruitment efforts they suppressed that news. Sount familiar ? Then it hit spain which was neutral, and since there was no axe to grind they started yelling and screaming about it. But in the year + since, it had spread through Europe and Americas - again sound familiar ??? Once the news got out, the British, French and Germans could not throw more bodies in the war.
