Since I don't have that many tools for working on my bike yet I buy or make up as I go. Now I need some sort of tool for locking the clutch so I can torque the nut. I could buy something but I like to make specific tools that perfectly fits the Savage.

I came up with the attached picture but then I figured it may be possible to make a combination tool that would also fit the flywheel.

Does anybody know the cc-measurement of the two screws in the flywheel?

If there is any interest when I'm done with the CAD drawings I can attach the DXF files so you can contact a local company and have the parts cut with waterjet, laser, plasma or similar.

[edit] My 46mm impact socket was just shy of 63mm diameter which gives just enough room for the 4 mounting points of the clutch so as long as the center-to-center distance of the two screws in the flywheel is less than 95mm it will probably work just fine :)

I have found a flywheel on ebay that I could buy but it feels unnecessary to buy a flywheel just to measure center-to-center distance between the two screws and also what dimension they are. I assume they are M6 as a lot of other parts in the engine.

I realized more functions/tools can easily be integrated in the handle. The steering nut for example required a special wrench. Can you think of anything else I might incorporate in the handle that can be beneficial?

The center-to-center distance for the two threaded holes in the flywheel is 4.130" (104.9mm). The threaded holes are M8 x 1.25.

I have never needed a special tool to hold the clutch pressure disc while removing or installing the nut. Simply place the transmission in 5th gear and hold the belt pulley with a strap wrench. An impact wrench works good for removal. Use a torque wrench for installation. The strap wrench on the pulley works just fine to hold the pulley while you tighten the clutch nut.

I doubt that it would 104.9mm, 105 more likely. tolerancing would be an unnecessary nightmare.

I made a simple flywheel holder tool a while ago when we first started the light flywheel thing.
It won't work with the anorexic-heroin-addict-runway-model flywheel.
DBM made a nice one for those, I'll have to steal his idea.

Since the spacers that go inside the clutch can be no wider than 95mm in diameter the actual tool/handle will have to be larger if I wan't something for grabbing on to the flywheel if I need it in the future.

Tight tolerancing is not needed and in this case I think a little wiggle room is nice to have.

Picked up the new tool to lock the clutch today. The smaller tool I placed inside the handle to use on the steering lock nut was a little bit too tight but the part to hold the clutch worked perfectly. If there is interest in this tool I can correct the dimensions for the steering nut and publish the new DXF files or I could just remove that part and leave it as a tool for the clutch and the flywheel. Let me know which you prefer

Here are the DXF-files fpr the tool.

The distance needed for the clutch spacer is just under 10mm so if you cut the tool in a 5mm thick sheet you need two of them.
