Title: Crankshaft hold plug Post by kamelryttarn on 07/20/20 at 04:49:55 In the process of re-assembling the engine and I am crazy scared of destroying something with over torqueing. The manual mentions a crankshaft hold plug that has kind of low torque specs for such a large nut/plug so I wan't to make sure I have not mistaken some other item for it and apply too much torque. I have tried to search for and figure out what "crankshaft hold plug" is but I can't find any other information besides the torque spec list in the Clymer manual. |

Title: Re: Crankshaft hold plug Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/20/20 at 10:11:04 If you're talking about the plug on the left side, the one with the slot, I recommend antisieze on the threads and wherever the aluminum will hit when the rubber is compressed. It really doesn't take a lot to have it jammed in there and a Real bear to get out. It's a plug. It doesn't hold the engine together. Whatever you used getting it out, put it back, you're not gonna wreck the motor if you get it too tight, you're just gonna make the next time you need in there an expensive drama, Put it in, do it gently Use a marker and put a line across one part of the circle,, now, if it starts to vibrate loose, you'll see it. It's not gonna, but if that would make you feel better about not tightening it a lot,, well, there ya go. |

At least I don't have to worry that I have over tightened what I now believe to be the primary gear drive nut when I torqued it to 25 Nm |

Title: Re: Crankshaft hold plug Post by norm92de on 07/20/20 at 14:54:39 I have had mine off several times and tighten it finger tight. Never had a leak or coming loose. I do know that if it is over tightened it can be a real bugger to loosen Don't do it! |
