Title: No, DUMBASS,, The wrong people have them
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/11/20 at 09:20:01

Chicago’s Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot was asked about the meteoric rise in homicides and attempted murders in the Windy City. Her answer minimized the issue and anyone who dared question her answer all at the same time.

“That’s a complicated question,” Mayor Lightfoot said, according to the Washington Examiner. “We have way too many guns on the streets.”

Her trite response came after the news that murders in Chicago were up by 78 percent in June, criminal shootings were up by 75 percent, over 2019’s figures. That accounts for 424 people shot, and 89 people murdered. For comparison, in June 2019, those figures were 242 shootings and 50 murders. It’s also on the horrific revelation a 3-year-old was murdered on Father’s Day and a 14-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl were murdered over July 4th weekend.

When ya pass laws that make it illegal to have a gun, then only criminals WILL have guns.. Is that really that hard to understand?

Its Clearly not the NUmber of guns that is the problem. Other places have guns, in the the same or higher numbers. The Per Capita gun ownership in Chicago cant be higher than Houston, Id bet.. Im pretty sure ther are Get Killed places in Houston, too,, But, LOOK at the differences,, Ask
Why..

Its time to admit
Its Not The GUNs,, Its NOT the gun causing these problems,,

The answers might be unsettling,, like Thug culture, and  growing up w/o a man in the home, and the last man who held a job in ytour family was your great grampa,, but its time to start admitting the obvious,,

Its NOT the GUNS,,

Nothing makes more sense than mandating the victim be disarmed..
You must surely suffer from some level of racial bias..

It must be.  I for one can't seem to create an understandable method of conveying this to elected officials.

Keep swinging, dude..
Have you tried asking them how they justify their position?
I know you have, what answer do you get?

Well, since these elected officials of whom you speak are the folks that think only the cops should be trusted with guns, are also the exact same folks that want to defund or , in some instances, do away with the cops altogether because they might shoot innocent black people with those guns that only they(the police) should be trusted with, I'd say you've got your work cut out for you.

They typically have redirected the question to local law enforcement or ignored it.

I think in a lot of cases they just feel like they need to do something, but have no idea what to do.  So they listen to the loudest, and typically the groups utilizing the most modern methods of communication.  When it comes to firearm ownership and modern methods of changing things its usually younger people that typically don't care if they have one.

So they are completely unaware of the laws and policies where Americans are armed, concealed carry is a normal thing, and gun violence is low,,
Amazing..

"So they are completely unaware of the laws and policies where Americans are armed, concealed carry is a normal thing, and gun violence is low,, "

In my experience most are aware but this is also not an absolute truth so it depends a lot on where geographically.  Part of the problem is treating elected officials like they are complete idiots rsults in poor arguments for gun ownership.  Many from what I have experienced are aware and informed but their assessment of constituents desires can be skewed, or the desires of most constituents is to remove certain types of firearms from public circulation.

This means the process is double sided, educating voters, and politicians.  What hasn't worked for anyone I know is telling either how stupid they are.

Pretending that stupid politicians are not stupid, and trying to reason with them doesn't seem to work very well either.

The only sure-fire way to get a political creature to embrace a particular position is to appeal to his or her avarice.

Bribery, when it can be accomplished without either participant winding up in jail seems to work like a charm.

What isn't an absolute truth?

 This:

"laws and policies where Americans are armed, concealed carry is a normal thing, and gun violence is low"

Areas of Denver for instance have large per-capita CCW numbers and also have the largest level of violent crime.

Wouldn't some statistical data on various demographics be good There??
Or, is that information available?

But, still not a Reason to Not enact policies that, while maybe not Universally proven, have been shown to work
And
Allowing people the ability to protect themselves is only right.
Disallowing it, well, that is criminal.

I think in the big picture there is less general violent crime when average citizens are armed, it just isn't the absolute.

For the most part though there is no definite answer when the question of how we get guns out of criminals hands comes up.

That's not the priority.
Get guns into the hands of decent people.
Quit making criminals out of them
For having a gun.
Support, respect, the armed citizen.

For me, a big question is

How, after YEARS of wrong policy, and a society that is wrapped in drug and gang culture, where violence is a daily concern, something the folks who live there know about, know where its most likely and avoid those places,, but people live there,, and where are the opportnities for these young people? How do they stand a chance of avoiding The Life? And If a young man decides to find a job at a grocery store and take his earnngs home to mom and help support his family, will the thugs in the neighborhood NOt shoot him for it?

The policies created this mess,, finding a way out, I just dont know,, when these are the headlines,,

CHICAGO - Sixty-four people were shot, 13 of them fatally, across Chicago over the weekend.

Fifteen-year-old Terrance Malden, who was gunned down about 4:50 p.m. Friday in Jeffery Manor on the South Side, was the weekend’s first victim. Five other teenagers were wounded in separate shootings between then and Monday morning.

The alarming numbers marked a dip from the gun violence that befell the city over the Fourth of July weekend, when 79 people were shot, 15 fatally. Eleven of those victims were minors, and two of the children died from their injuries.

In the same weekend last year, nine people were killed and 32 more were wounded.

Monday morning

The most recent fatal attack left a man dead early Monday in Park Manor on the South Side.

The 27-year-old was on the street about 1:45 a.m. in the 6700 block of South Rhodes Avenue when someone fired shots from a vehicle, Chicago police said. He was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Less than an hour before that, a 26-year-old man was shot and killed in Lawndale on the West Side.

He was standing on the sidewalk about 12:24 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Homan Avenue when he was gunned down, police said. The man was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Sunday

Late Sunday night, a man was shot to death and two teenagers were wounded at a gas station in West Englewood on the South Side.

They were in a vehicle at a gas station at 11:28 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Damen Avenue when a silver SUV pulled up and someone inside started shooting, according to police. The driver, a 20-year-old man, was shot multiple times and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he died.

A 14-year-old boy was shot in the back and a 17-year-old boy was hit in the right arm, police said. Both were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition.

Another attack earlier that night left a man dead and three people wounded in Englewood.

Officers responding to a call of a person shot about 9:47 p.m. found the 45-year-old man unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds in the 700 block of West 66th Place, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Soon after, three other people showed up at St. Bernard Hospital saying they had been shot at the same location, police said. Two men, 27 and 33, and a 20-year-old woman were all shot in their legs, and all were in good condition.

Early Sunday morning, a 26-year-old man was shot dead in the same neighborhood.

About 5:15 a.m., he was standing in the 2100 block of West 71st Street when he heard shots and felt pain, Chicago police said. He was struck multiple times and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, whe

Whats the next step?
Whats the first step toward changing that society back to something that isnt a good storyline for a science fiction work?

"I'm surprised nobody offered anything."

 Why?

My understanding is people here have already said what they think the "solution" is.  Its usually along the lines of Add guns, more police.  Add guns, less police.  Less guns, more police.  Less guns, less police.  Get rid of the politicians.  Change the education system.  Longer/stricter penalties.

I guess I'd just like to see what people think is the answer after decades of wrong policy creating a society in shambles, and see how they suggest is a way back to a decent place to live, instead of a likely place to bury your son.

Maybe because the people who are NOT the problem are fed up with being told that they ARE the problem  There is no solution until the idiots that are killing each other figure out that THEY are the problem, and change their attitudes and behavior.

Fu*k 'em. It isn't MY fault, and I don't care anymore. If black lives actually mattered to black folks and the lefties that pretend to care about and pander to them they'd change. But apparently they don't, so they wont.
