Title: Time lapse fire... Mt. Lemmon
Post by Serowbot on 06/19/20 at 07:56:52

The best summer ride in Tucson is burning. Mt.Lemmon.
Sad to see,... caused by a dry lightning strike.
...but all the buildings were saved, and natural fires ultimately clear the forest and make way for new growth.
The ride will still be there as will the hot coffee at the top.  The view will changed for a generation.

Watch the time lapse as the fire goes past the fire station near the top.
Amazing hot shot fire fighters at work.
Strange times... :-?

After the Aspen Fire in 2003 the road was made wider. It was a much better riding experience post fires. It sucks it taook a fire but they happen, almost makes sense to wait for a wildfire.

I saw a neighborhood in Oro Valley was evacuated. I used to live up by La Canada and Tangerine.

No experiece with Mt. Lemmon other then the legendary stories about skiing there when the snow falls. There are rumors that when it snow's on Lemmon all of Tuscan goes crazy to get up there for some tracks in the fresh. Not sure how it is today, but back in the 80's they say radio in Tuscan would report it's snowing on the mountain so you better call in sick so you can get up there.

It's not a big mountain by ski area standards, but has been on my bucket list to ski there for the passion it apparently has in the Tuscan area.

I'm guilty of it for sure. Some days are busier than others when it snows. It's a popular spot.

Near Windy Point Lookout

Back in the late 80's my buddies brother lived in Tuscon and every winter he would go and visit and ski at Lemmon and Apache Sunrise. He would tell stories about snow days at Lemmon and the crazy traffic and chain up to get there. Or going to Sunrise and the tribal management deciding they were not going to open that day. The whole thing of being in Tuscon with the palm trees and desert and a quick drive to ski fascinates me. I do 40 plus days a year on ski's out of Jersey.

We have the Ski Bums MC, moto is "Live to Ski, Ride to Live". The official State of NJ license Plate on my car.

Is that a view from your house? I cant trell how far away it is,, probably not far enough.

A few summers back we had fires out here, helicopters hauling bags of water,, everybody was all tensed up, I hated to leave the house, worried someone might start something and it run our way.. and me not here to fight it,,

That fire photo is an AP news shot... Looks like it is elevated,.. probably from a helicopter....
I think my house would be in line with it, but maybe 5 or 6 miles further back.

We're finally getting a spot of rain today... Hope it helps.

Pedals are great,... but I laid her down last winter and broke the right one off.
I really miss them... They got a lot of comments at rest stops too.

Someday, I'll replace them,.. need to find a good welder though.
( not the rig,... a person that welds)  ;D

I used to spin them at traffic lights to make kiddies giggle.
