Title: WATER DRIVEN AIR COMPRESSOR - NO MOVING PARTS
Post by Dave on 04/26/20 at 08:46:43

The ingenuity of man never ceases to amaze me.

I was aware that it was possible to pump water using a water ram, a device that uses a large amount of water to pump a smaller amount of water uphill.

This morning while eating my oatmeal and cruising YouTube, I discovered something called a Trompe pump.  It can use water flow to create compressed air.  The Ragged Chutes pumping station supplied compressed air at 125 psi to the local mines through a 20" diameter air line!

In the following video it explains how the Ragged Chutes plant worked.  The water spray is the bleed off of excess air, and in the video the plant is operating and bleeding off all the air as excess since the mines were no longer in operation......however I don't know that they were operating the plant at full capacity when the video was taken - this thing could make a lot of air!
