Quick question relating to the exhaust outlet from the engine block.
I was recently out riding and noticed the bike had gotten much louder than normal. On inspection, I found that one of the fixing bolts on the exhaust clamp had come loose and fallen out and the second one was also loose. I have ordered two new genuine bolts and an new gasket but want to know what the torque setting should be on these two bolts (No. 4 in diagram) and also should I use any thread lock when fitting them.

The short answer is, don't use the original. Use stainless studs with heat resistant thread locker (forget what exactly its called - search, this is an old problem on this bike) and put em in the head, and use stainless or brass nuts with anti seize again exhaust spec to put the collar on.

If you do elect to use the OEM bolts do not use any thread locker on them, use anti seize compund instead.and keep an eye on them.

Torque spec is 13 to 20 ft lbs.

If you use a new gasket and tighten them to spec they will most likely stay put. I suspect that when they come loose it's often because the exhaust has been on and off a few times using the same gasket that has already been crushed.

I use the stock bolts......and they work fine as long as you don't over tighten them and you use anti-sieze paste when installing them.

I use a 1/4" drive ratchet and just snug them up with one hand on the wrench.....they should be snug - not tight.

It's easier to check and attend to little things occasionally than having a big problem because you tightened something too tight.

Ain’t that the truth. The charm of the Savage comes at the price of diligence. On most vehicles I’ve owned, oil has been fire-and-forget; I check this bike’s oil every-other tank top-off. I love the bike for the same reason my wife abandoned it- vibration. After loosing a few bolts, checking fasteners for security is a regular part of my pre-flight inspection.
