Hello Savagiers,

I'm going to mount my sidestand / kickstand further back and was wondering if anyone has done this without the Ryca mount kit. The kit looks perfect but I'm not sure I can commit that kind of cash. Plus I think I can make something like that sans powder coat.

What I think I have to to do is make the mount, brace plate and get a longer motor mount bolt. And also find the angle. Looks like 45 degrees? Idk.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I saw one that the guy said was for a triumph and was welded on.
Nice assembly, no exposed spring.

That is super slick! Do you know the wall thickness of the Savage frame? I've done quite a bit of welding, but not on tubing like this. I wonder how hard it would be to weld on with a standard MIG welder. I'd hate to burn through the frame!

there are a couple of sheetmetal caps on the frame horns under the seat.
you could take one off to check the thickness.

I did one using a hacked up stock unit and a RYCA style mount that I made. The only issue is that the mount hangs a little low and it will drag if I corner really aggressively with lowered and compressed (under hard braking) forks.

Sidestand from a 675 Triumph. Shortened, and pad re-angled. Sanded and polished. Mounting bracket cut and the angle tightened up. Holes moved
Shortened the mount on the left side. Installed a heli-coil in the frame for the hole that isn't a motor mount. Stainless rod for motor mount bolt.
Used the Triumph spring. Made a new mount for the spring. Moved the hole for the spring pin on the bracket.
Just bolts on!

ohiomoto, do you have any other photos of the cut stock mount? I'm trying to figure out where I need to slice mine up to try the same thing and can't quite figure out what I'm looking at in your photos. Looks like it's what I'll have to do. Thanks!!!
