I have received a new drive belt.
with round teeth M14.

Let me explain the problem...... :'(

The old belt has trapesium shaped teeth.
just like the pulley ...

But because Clymer explicitly gives a belt with round teeth to Bando133u-14m 40,
I ordered a belt with M14.
With 140 teeth because, I have extended my rear bridge.

Here the two belts next to each other.

(The pitch is exactly the same)

The problem is that it is does not fit the pulley.

The oldl belt goes around it without a problem.

Strangely enough it does fit the rear pulley.

My question is: Does the front pulley of a kawazakie 450 ltd have round teeth? And wil it fix the problem?

You obviously ordered a belt that won't work.

The Kawasaki bikes use the same "flat" teeth as the Suzuki belt, and the pulleys are also machined for flat teeth.

If you can't get the correct "new" belt, you may be able to use a belt from the Kawasaki EN454or EN500....or one from a Kawasaki KZ750 as they have the same width and tooth sizes - but you need to find out the tooth count (I believe one of them is longer than our belt).

I'm no expert. might be the wrong belt ( round teeth doesn't seem right ? ) , or the way your holding it , the belt seems to fit the large pulley but it's only contacting 1/2 the pulley . Does the belt fit around only 1/2 the smaller drive pulley? (that 's the way they would be on the bike ) If it does you may be OK, providing the round teeth don't slip out of the openings in the pulleys under load, and you don't have to over tighten the belt so the teeth won't slip out.

It does fit al the way round the big pully.

I have measured the gap between the teeth of the belts. The new belt has less space between the teeth and that gets worse when the belt is bent around a small radius.

Hence it fits the large pulley but not the small one.

The round teeth on the belt will not engage the Suzuki rear or front pulley properly. The belts are designed so that the belt sits down onto the top of the teeth on the pulley......look at your pulleys and you will see the top of the metal teeth are polished, while the root still has paint on it. When you use the belt with the rounded teeth the belt will hit the bottom of the metal tooth, and the belt will not seat and engage the teeth.

Remove the side flange on your rear pulley and look at how the original belt engages the teeth - then do the same with the belt with rounded teeth......and you will see that the teeth don't engage each other. You "cannot" use the belt with rounded teeth - it will not work.

The Kawasaki belt I have has rounded teeth and is a couple teeth longer.
Not sure which one I got.
