Post by Gwgm on 10/07/19 at 11:35:44

If someone could post in Spanish how to rejet a carb, I believe Gustavo would appreciate it. By "never got it to look good' does he mean it's dirty? By "always runs fat" I assume that means rich. I'd like to see how a fresh spark plug looks after a short fast ride.

I'd like to know if he's still running a stock petcock.

Bravo Stewmills!  This is cool.  Sure wish I was bilingual.  I agree with Gary & Batman.  A thorough sorting out of Gustavo's stock carburetor along with a first class petcock should do the trick.

Now how do we convey the info?

Please tell Gustavo I said welcome aboard.  8-)

Gustavo,

We typically replace the fuel shut off with a model from a Yamaha Raptor. Make sure you get a genuine Yamaha part.

I'm thinking "thingy assy" won't translate too well for Gustavo.   :)

To all y'all English speakers: Dude runs rich, has black smoke in his exhaust, thinks a different carb will fix this. He's taken it to five mechanics and they've swapped out every carb part I understand in Spanish plus some I'm guessing on.

I told him about the Raptor Petcock and stressed the importance of a genuine Yamaha part and directed him to the part number from Batman's post.

I also told him other carbs can be used, but that we can probably coach him through this with less money hand hassle than changing the carb, which seems an odd/excessive way to solve this problem. If he continues down that line of thinking I'll try to translate a conversation with Lancer about that business ;)

Lastly, I asked him if he knew what size his jets are (also, tried to describe WHAT jets are because there are lots of definitions for that word and I don't know if the translation I used applies to the part in question), if his carb adjustment screw has been uncovered and what altitude he lives at. If y'all can think of any other pertinent questions I'll try my darndest to translate back-and-forth in a timely fashion.

All that said, I'm not really fluent and I'm looking up a lot of vocab as I go, so it's time consuming and I'll likely make mistakes ;D

Could be the white spacer was totally removed. If I remember right that will cause the bike to run on the rich side.
