Title: Indicators blinking faster when revs are up
Post by AaduKala on 09/25/19 at 06:51:43

1995 LS650P

When idling the blinkers work fine but when I give some throttle the blinkers start flashing a lot faster. The flashes are very short and you can't almost see the light when revs are higher. So it's an issue when driving in traffic.
Revving doesn't affect other lights - they don't go brighter.
All the bulbs are ok and with equal wattage.
Issue started only recently and is not constant.

Could this be a grounding problem or?

Also adding the pic of my ride, just for visual non helping reference : )

Doesn't matter which side?

No.

:all four flashing?
Have you done anything to it?

Flashing fast is an indication of a burnt out bulb but also happens with LEDs which are low current.
Could it be that you have a loose connection somewhere?  maybe at the flasher?

No-no.

Picture this.
I sit on my bike and it's idling.
I push the indicator switch to left to turn on the left indicators. They work normally - front and back. I switch to right - indicators are blinking normally on right side too. Bike is idling nice.
I keep the right side indicators on and twist the throttle, revving the bike.
When revs go up the indicators (both front and back right side only because that's what I had on) start blinking faster.
The more revs the faster they blink.
Same deal when I switch to left.

Have you compared voltage at idle vs at higher rpm?

Maybe they are flashing slowly at low rpm (low voltage) and normal at higher rpm (14+ VDC).

Until you Visually inspect and can report that all four lights are flashing, it's just not reasonable to pursue.

Prior to this, have you done ANY work on it?

Only from battery. Stayed the same when idling and when revving.
13.7V wich is tiny bit low actually.

They blink normal when idling and really fast when revving. Like you hardly see the bulb turning on and off.

I had one of the handlebar end indicators loose at some point.
They don't have proper mounts and are stuffed in there with tape around the indicator stem. It gets the grounding from handlebar itself and I stuffed some bits of copper washing sponge in there to get connection from the end of indicator to handlebar inside.
It was a quick fix in front of a shop just to get back on the road. But as with quick fixes that work happens - they sort of get permanent.
Other then that - no.

All bulbs are ok and no LEDs. Regular 15W if I remember correctly.
But yeah, gotta go through the connections I guess. Don't have the bike at my current location this week but will be checking on it asap.

Are all of them WORKING?

If your ground is only the handlebars .that may not be solid.  the front end is hung on greased bearings  that may resist flow, and your copper sponge may have oxidized  over time. Each turn signal should have it's own ground wire that leads beck to the main frame behind the fork neck .
