Nicely done Greta!

'This is science': Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg testifies before Congress

Appearing on Capitol Hill for the second straight day Wednesday, Swedish teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg told U.S. lawmakers she did not want them to listen to her.

“I want you to listen to the scientists,” Thunberg said in her testimony before the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, where she appeared with other youth leaders. “I want you to unite behind science. And then I want you to take action.”

Instead of prepared remarks, Thunberg submitted a 2018 report on global warming by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which warned about the impacts of global warming of 1.5°C that researchers say is likely between 2030 and 2052 if it continues at the current rate.

“This is not political views or my opinions,” she said. “This is science.”

The hearing was part of a series of events intended to raise awareness of global warming before a planned “climate strike” on Friday, when students around the world are being encouraged to walk out of schools and jobs to demand action on climate change before the annual United Nations General Assembly later this month.

Thunberg chastised members of the Senate Climate Change Task Force on Tuesday for inaction.

“Please save your praise. We don’t want it,” Thunberg said. “Don’t invite us here to tell us how inspiring we are without doing anything about it because it doesn’t lead to anything.”

Jamie Margolin, a 17-year-old climate change activist from Seattle, also scolded committee members on Wednesday for empty praise.

“You’re promising me lies,” Margolin said. “Everyone who will walk up to me after this testimony saying I have such a bright future ahead of me will be lying to my face. It doesn’t matter how talented we are, how much work we put in, how many dreams we have. The reality is, my generation has been committed to a planet that is collapsing.”

President Trump and his administration have been widely criticized for rolling back Obama-era environmental protections, withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord and resisting the conclusions by the vast majority of scientists that global warming has been caused by humans.

On Monday, Thunberg met with former President Barack Obama at his Washington, D.C., offices.

“No one is too small to have an impact and change the world,” Thunberg said in a video posted to Twitter by the former president’s charitable foundation. “So do everything that you can.”

Thunberg, who has been nominated for a Nobel Prize for her work raising awareness about climate change, has become an inspirational figure for fellow teens. Last month, she sailed from Europe to the United States on a zero-emission yacht.

Arriving in New York City after her 15-day trip across the Atlantic Ocean, she was asked if she had a message for Trump.

“My message for him is listen to the science,” Thunberg said. “And he obviously doesn't do that.

Hey genius, ever hear of context?

My ENTIRE quote was "No, I'm sure all her threats came from the right wing lunatics and white power a$$holes."

Hey mn - how's it coming with your understanding of "there", "they're" and "their"?

BWAAAHAAHAAAA!!

But hey, speaking of threats... do you have any proof other than the family just saying they were threatened?

I haven't seen any online.  I've seen comments like mark's saying "child abuse", but I've seen no actual death threats.

So.... is this little back and forth moot?  Are you actually making sh!t up?

‘The Earth is dying’, ‘the world is on fire’, we’re undergoing an ‘environmental extinction’: just three of the sentiments which have been expressed by today’s climate ‘strikers’ and which, unlike even moderate expressions of skepticism on matters of climate science, seem to escape without challenge.

While it is tempting to think of today’s climate ‘strike’ by schoolchildren around the world as a case of truants finding an ethical excuse to skip lessons, I think many are acting for genuine reasons: they are traumatized. They are the reflection of the hyperbolic coverage of climate change by Al Gore, Hollywood and even, latterly, David Attenborough – films where footage of fires, hurricanes and calving glaciers is stitched together to give the impression of impending doom. How many of these kids know that hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones are a natural part of the tropical climate and were going on many millennia before significant man-made carbon emissions? I rather wonder.

Any principal who values his or her students’ education will not turn a blind eye to today’s absences, still less join the kids for a march, as some are reported to be doing.

They will keep them behind after school and set them two papers to research and write. The first should answer the question: ‘Does scientific evidence support the notion that “the Earth is dying”?’ As for resources to answer that question, I point them towards the latest IPCC report as well as the data sources which feed into it. That would include Nasa data on sea ice in the Arctic, which shows a sharp retreat in recent decades, as well as satellite data from the same organization on wildfires – which shows a fall in the acreages burned in recent decades. They might also like to look at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Organization’s report on hurricanes which last month concluded: ‘it is premature to conclude with high confidence that human activity – and particularly greenhouse warming – has already caused a detectable change in Atlantic hurricane activity.’

Paper number two should be on the question: ‘What would it mean for the global economy if governments really did eliminate all carbon emissions by 2025?’ Given that this is the central demand of many of the climate strikers, this is a rather pertinent question.

Resources for this essay might include, for example, data on the steel industry, which accounts for around seven percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, for which there is as yet no known means of decarbonization – and without which we cannot, for example, build wind farms, construct tractors to till the soil and many other things.

Children should also be invited to consider how we might store energy generated exclusively by intermittent renewable means, how we would maintain global food production – for which they will need to look beyond the livestock industry, given that 13 percent of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions come from fertilizers and 10 percent comes from rice production.

In addition, the students must answer this: if global food production did fall as a result of efforts to eliminate carbon emissions, which groups of the global population would suffer most?

How we deal with climate change is, of course, a serious issue and deserves to be treated as such in schools as anywhere else. I challenge principals to set striking children essays along the lines I have described. I would be genuinely interested in reading the results.

Wrong Again: 50 Years of Failed Eco-pocalyptic Predictions

Modern doomsayers have been predicting climate and environmental disaster since the 1960s. They continue to do so today.

None of the apocalyptic predictions with due dates as of today have come true.

What follows is a collection of notably wild predictions from notable people in government and science.

More than merely spotlighting the failed predictions, this collection shows that the makers of failed apocalyptic predictions often are individuals holding respected positions in government and science.

While such predictions have been and continue to be enthusiastically reported by a media eager for sensational headlines, the failures are typically not revisited.

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2019/09/l-reichard-white/climate-change-eat-drink-be-merry/

turns out, the current super-hyped and highly ballyhooed scientific consensus that human behavior is causing — or can cause — significant global warming, when honestly traced, originates with 53 IPCC writers — not necessarily scientists BTW, with 40 of them climate speculators, ah, climate modelers — plus five reviewers.

On the other hand, there are at least 31,000 American Scientists — over 9,000 with PhDs — who have each arrived at an informed opinion and very definitely, by signing this petition, reject the hypothesis of significant human-caused global warming.

So we have 58 IPCC folks who we can be sure officially espouse AGW climate change, 31,000-plus informed American scientists who very specifically disagree, and then, especially given those seriously conflicting figures, we have the astonishing claim that 96% of scientists agree with IPCC’s AGW.

So, AGW folks, to get your 96% agreement figure — just to balance those 31,000 scientists who diss AGW — the math says you need at least 744,000 (96% / 4% x 31,000) scientists who specifically agree with your version of AGW, preferably ones that have signed an equivalent petition or other proof of agreement.

Where are they?

Or did you only ask a small group of copasetic folks to get that 96% figure? Or did you just make it up?

In any case, consensus in science — if there is one and even if it’s arrived at honestly — is the least useful level of scientific confidence. Sounds strange to the non-scientist — and probably heresy to those steeped in “the majority rules“ — but here it is in concentrated form:

Let’s be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results.” –Michael Crichton

Bot, were you looking for something like this ?

"Thirty years of data have been collected since Mr. Hansen outlined his scenarios—enough to determine which was closest to reality. And the winner is Scenario C".

"...He called Scenario A “business as usual,” as it maintained the accelerating emissions growth typical of the 1970s and ’80s. ...
Scenario B set emissions lower, ... Mr. Hansen called this outcome the “most plausible,”...
He added a final projection, Scenario C,
which he deemed highly unlikely

30 years, that's 3 decades right.

"Why should people world-wide pay drastic costs to cut emissions when the global temperature is acting as if those cuts have already been made?"

Hey, deniers - why do you all have your panties in a bunch?

Just live in ignorance and keep your sand-pounding to yourselves.

Those of us who are smart enough to realize what the science means will do what we can to help those like Greta.

Just sit down and don't do anything.... that's what you're best at.

Thanks.....

The question is
Why do you continue to believe what has been demonstrated false?
It's not about me, it's about you and your kind.
You can't EXPLAIN why you believe lies.
So you pretend I should not CARE.

Nothing's been demonstrated as false.  The global temp has gone up at an alarming rate since the turn of the century.  Whether you think so or not, that will have consequences.  The warmest years on record are in the space of the last 10 years.  That actually means something.

You want to bring up the research of the 70's... fine.  That's NOT what we're talking about today.  Pull your head out and actually read and learn something....  but of course, you won't.

It's not about me, it's about you and your kind.

Good!  They should live in fear.  Look at what we've done.  Tens of Gigatons of pollution in the atmosphere every year.  How can anyone think that there'll be no consequences?

How can anyone be ignorant?

Here's an idea jog, you wanna help those "children in fear"?

Then fukcing do something.  Stop calling it a hoax and doing nothing.

And in your case tt, they know, it is not possible.

In the case of firearms,

You know so well that Banning, Restricting, Confiscating, making Requirements, Extensive waiting periods, Regulating # of rounds, Controlling what and how much Ammo, that the Law Abiding CITIZEN, has to, have/do/etc.
Works SO WELL, Because of Chicago, NY, Calf,

Because YOU, (and Bot), know all about them,
cause you, 'say', 'you have one' !

Here is a idea, go in and Confiscate, all the ILLEGAL firearms,
in the, 'bad' places, in the major Cities.
Gee, I'll bet even the NRA would be behind you on that.

Call up AOC, BS, and CU.  Call up the 10 on the Stage that want your vote. Call up ALL the UL FDS Socialistic people, and give them pitchforks.

What are you waiting for ?
"...fukcing do something..."

Go to those places, and Confiscate, all the ILLEGAL firearms,

So... here's how one of the triggered haters (you know, just like a few on this very thread) react to Greta:

Iowa Teacher Placed On Leave After 'Sniper' Comment About Greta Thunberg Visit

A high school teacher in Iowa has been placed on administrative leave after he posted a threatening comment on Facebook in response to a news story about the local visit of 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Waterloo West High School science teacher Matt Baish on Thursday posted “don’t have my sniper rifle” next to a story about the Swedish student’s trip to Iowa City the next day, The Des Moines Register reported.

Others responding to Baish were horrified by his comment. Screenshots of his remark, later deleted, were posted on the Waterloo Community School District Facebook page, according to the newspaper.

Parents emphasized to a local news station that Baish made the threatening comment about a child the same age as students he teaches. That means students can enter a classroom “where they don’t feel safe, where they don’t feel they can share their opinion, where they don’t feel respected” said one mother (see the video above). “We as parents have to stand up against that.”

Parents, teachers and students at Waterloo West High School received an email from Waterloo Community School District officials Friday about Baish being placed on administrative leave.

“We are aware of a social media situation involving one of our employees,” the statement said. “The nature of the content shared rose to the level of putting this employee on administrative leave pending an investigation. We appreciate your patience as we sort through the details and thank you for respecting the process.”

A police spokesman told the Des Moines Register that law enforcement is also investigating Baish.

Baish could not be reached for comment.

Waterloo Schools’ social media policies warn staff to “think twice before posting” and advise not to post or approve comments that include “threats of physical or bodily harm.”

Thunberg joined more than 3,000 activists at a “climate strike” Friday in Iowa City. Demonstrators demanded that the University of Iowa and the city agree to a climate accord which calls for both entities to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2030 — and demands the university to cease burning coal at its power plant.

http://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/matt-baish-greta-thunberg-iowa-school-sniper-040803916.html

This is proof positive that the mentality of the triggered leads directly to this type of behavior.

A better question is - Why is it you can never address the topic at hand and always bring up a "whatabout"?
