Title: Savage Yearly Miles O'Smiles Awards
Post by verslagen1 on 09/05/19 at 14:49:57

You can start anytime after the equinox, but the deadline is the end of summer.
Post your miles to enter and on the end of summer post your miles to win.

Quote:
Summer ends and autumn starts at the moment of the September equinox, which occurs every year on September 21 to 23.

This year is Monday, September 23

This year if you've posted your mileage in the Savage Miles Hall o'Fame it counts.

Awards may vary from those pictured.

What if you are in the Southern Hemisphere?

Stand on your head to post... ;D

There's still 365 days, right?...
Kilometer conversion costs extra....

Living in S. Fla with a 12 month riding ''season'' I shall refrain from entering. WWWWWWWWaaayyyy too much of a advantage over someone who lives in say, Ohio.

How about handicapping?
Divide total by number of months in your riding season?
Or best month of the season?

Wait a minute ...

Cold weather ridding gear is available every-where .    I know I ride all winter long , the attire ranges from "T-shirt" in June to Leather jacket and chaps in January .    My January rides are usually of the early afternoon type , but early winter morning outing are not totally out of the picture.
So how about we post the millage on the equinox 2019 and see what the change is for 2020  ?

Writing 2020 seems  weard !   ::)

I can see a big problem with having more than one bike !

This is a good idea " Or best month of the season? " , and might encourage me (or somebody else) to take the Savage on a trip instead of another machine .

So , If a trip is comming up in a given month , we could post the first of the month millage reading at the first of the month ?  :-?

No need to deduct any points, it'll be hard enough on you pushing it in a wheelbarrow.   :-?

Will the winner be given a "JOG" trophy?

So , If you were replacing the forks ...
      1.  Would you go to an OVERSIZE length ?
      2.  Try for a springer type ?
      3.  Go back to original ?

I did catch that about the case being cracked , but that can be fixed .

A new S-40 that had never been (Idled Down) or (mistreated) would be a treasure to have and keep .   :o

I can't say it's cracked.
It's gouged out by one of the fork tubes.
Yeah, Otta fix okay.

Dave, where did you find the snapped off forks?

I bought those on eBay.  My current forks have lost all the damping.  I drained the oil, replaced the modified damping rods and RaceTech emulators with damping rods from forks that worked......and still no damping.  I think somehow my fork brake may have been putting a bind on the forks and caused the seals or tubes to wear out and allow the oil to bypass the damping rods.  Currently the just bounce up and down with little resistance.

Might be fun getting those broken tubes out of the sliders. :-?

And......just so we keep this on topic.  It is going to be hard for me to stay in the competition now that I have 2 other bikes to ride!

Ok, it's fall! Time to fess-up your mileage for the year--
I checked my logs and these are the closest fill-ups to the first day of fall....

23 Sept. 15'      10,308
14 Sept. 16'      31,512
08 Sept. 17'      50,963
23 Sept. 18'      75,423
23 Sept. 19'      94,674  -  19,251 this year. A little down from last year cause the hurricane canclled my trip to Winston-Salem, NC. last month. Plan on going to Birmingham,AL. next week for the musem thing, then up to see Moe one more time this year.

Being retired & living in S. Fla. with a 12 month riding season does give me a HUGE advantage!

I have such a "YOUNG" machine !   ::)

For a while I used a different fuel tank and speedometer , till the sun got to the paint on the larger tank.   So the "other" speedometer I used for two years has 19,000 + miles on it.   One of those that mount between the handle bar types.

The factory speedometer is back on my S-40 again and has :

32,333.2 miles showing on it .  Those numbers are a little bit deceptive .    :-?

With the 16" tire and larger front pulley there is a 14% difference between the speedometer and the GPS for speed calculations , so it stands to reason there is a 14% difference in Miles being registered on the Factory speedometer too.

((32,333 + 19,000) * 1.14) = 58,519.

Still  " YOUNG "  sort-of ???   :)

In Short my  First day of Fall reading is :  32, 333.2 miles !  :)
