Title: possible leak
Post by buster6315 on 07/12/19 at 15:18:21

I am looking at a 2008 low mile Savage.  Was the leaky plug in the rocker box cured by this year, or is it still a possible problem?  Thank you!

The style of the rubber plug has changed but the fact that the factory doesn't use a sealant when they install it hasn't.  Verslagen  has the best possible fix . See the Marketplace.

Thanks, with just over 4k miles, she is a garage queen for sure.  The last one I owned, I replaced the faulty plug, and subsequently sold the bike.  I would not look forward to the same issue on another one.

Yes, I suppose it would!  I don't have the room in the garage right now.  So, I'll wait and see what happens.

If a Savage is in your future.......a head plug likely will be as well.

It may not leak right away and you could possibly go for a few years without issues - but eventually it will leak until you install a Versy plug.

When I took my engine apart to install a cam and Wiseco piston, it had around 1,200 miles on it, and Versy was not yet making his aluminum head plug and I installed a new factory plug.  I was able to go 4 years before it started leaking.....probably 6,000 miles.

Thank you.  That is one more thing to consider before moving forward with a purchase.  How long do the cam chain adjusters last on average?

adjusters last forever if you change the chain in time.
If you want a longer lasting chain than you need to mod the adjuster.

Are the chains still available?  You say the correct term is head plug?  I may need these when 'negogtianting

Everything for this bike is still available, as they are still making it.

The best cam chains are the "nitrided" ones that Lancer had made for the Savage.....you can find them in the Marketplace listing.
