Title: New Savage owner
Post by D3fr4G on 04/30/19 at 12:13:43

Hello thanks for the add first of all. I recently bought a used 97 savage, I haven’t had the chance to ride the bike yet but I did notice that the shift appears to be bent a little bit. Has anyone had any luck with changing the shift lever to a aftermarket one?

Usually the problem with the shifter is a bent rod between the shifter pedal and the small arm on the shifter shaft entering the case, from someone stomping on it to hard. loosening the locking nuts at each end (one left handed, one right handed) allows you to adjust pedal height by turning the rod in either direction . If the rod is bent it may have to be replaced as it will tend to flex not allowing full travel. If it's just the pedal you should be able to apply pressure with an adjustable wrench to bend it back.
