Title: FS 2011 S40 Kennewick, WA
Post by Doug B on 04/24/19 at 08:30:18

Come and get it... Lunch? Dinner? No, my bike. I'm ready to sell. I purchased a new 2011 model on 8-21-12. Orange and black. I rode it for less than 2 months that year. I rode it the next year(warm season). In 2014(end of March or early April) I took it for it's first ride of the season around the block. Upon pulling into my graveled driveway my front tire slid out - as did my right foot. The bike went over on it's side at very low speed. It put a small dent in the fuel tank(from a larger piece of gravel), and a few scratches in the black paint area. It also has the left rear turn signal broken - at a later time while parked(clear taped back together). The bike kept running and I parked it. I rode it again a few days later. The next time I went to start it - Nothing. No lights - no cranking - nothing. I assumed that it had a loose electrical connection? It has sat(indoors) ever since. In 2015(or 2016) I purchased a new battery. I installed it, but never cranked it. I thought that I would give the time and effort to get it going, but I did not. I haven't done anything but let it sit(indoors). It has only 3026 miles on it. I have continually added fresh fuel, and additives, and shaken the bike(fuel) to prevent complete fuel tank crud. I've pushed it around the shop, and worked the brake lever and pedal. It should have plenty of life left in it. Included with the sale : Clymer manual, aftermarket rear turn signals(Kapso Moto - (Krator JBM-068-C)new in box), 3 K & N oil filters(obviously new in boxes), new spark plug(NGK Iridium), touch up paint for fuel tank(Color Rite matching kit), STA-BIL fogging oil, new saddlebags(still in box - #990A0-77014), original paperwork, back up keys. Paint, chrome, seat, overall appearance still fine(stored indoors).

Make offer. You can contact me thru this forum or : Email me : dougbareither@yahoo.com  Or call me : 509-948-8488  I work graveyards 11p.m. to 9a.m.

Maybe I should have added : My graveyard shifts are Wednesday thru Saturday nights(11p.m. to 9a.m.). Thus, it may seem that I don't return calls/Emails in a timely fashion. Also - the first $999 bucks takes it .

There are times when I wish I were somewhere other than in Washington state. I have also lived in Idaho, Florida, Florida(again), and Mississippi. I should just get off of my lazy rear and get this bike running. I've stated in the past "it's always fun to be on a boat on the water." Also, "there's nothing like riding a motorcycle - feeling what it's like moving thru the open air."

SavageMan99 - I appreciate the offer, but no. I offered it to my nephew last week for $900. He agreed, but not till Summer. I was debating what to do until yesterday. Last July I purchased a new, loaded, 2018 Toyota Rav4 SE($35,350 sticker). I still owe(as of yesterday) $12,135. I decided to write Toyota Financial Services the check, and mail it yesterday.  :-/ :-/

I looked into another brand new bike. My local dealership(Ride Now Sports) has another new 2018 S40 for $3,995. That's what I paid for mine in August 2012. MSRP is $5,749. They also have a new Suzuki C50(MSRP $8,249) for $4,995. I did my homework, and considered both.

I then expanded my search. I wanted to stay close to home. I decided that a new 2018 Indian Scout 60 was my best choice. A local dealer(Thunder Alley) in Pasco, WA has one for sale. I asked for an out-the-door quote. The response was $10,694.41 $9,949 plus $845.41 tax, $200 license/registration, and $150 DOC - no freight or set-up charges. It was hard to refuse. I haven't been on a motorcycle for five years.

I am now in a different mindset. I might keep my bike and spend time working on it. 31 horsepower, and 37 pound-feet of torque(stock). The Indian Scout 60 has 78 hp and 65 lb-ft stock. However, paying off the Rav4 nearly depleted my checking account. I would have to put a new Indian on credit - payments for ???  I want to get on a bike and ride again. The Suzuki would satisfy my wants/needs/desires. Yes, I'm rambling on(Ramble On - like the old Led Zeppelin song).

You should probably get the LS running and ride it a bit more before buying a larger bike.

Here’s an idea: locate a trustworthy motorcycle mechanic or garage near you. (You want one handy regardless so you stop pushing your bike around the garage :P.) Have them go through your S40 and get it running. For $500 they should be able to clean carb, fix electrical, and maybe swap that tail light. Your bike will be worth at least $1500 in running condition and you can get past the project phase you seem to be stuck in. Enjoy riding it a bit.

Then upgrade and/or try out the Suzuki Boulevard vl800 (C50/C50T) or other bikes. You will have a great frame of reference. Your nephew would still get a bargain at $1500. I recently bought a 2009 S40 for $1400 (in Bremerton WA) that has 2 salvage title badges and more dings, >16k mi, and many small mods. Yours is likely a better condition once it is running.

I have both 2009 S40 and a 2008 C50T (touring package).  Solo/short rides I actually prefer the S40 at ~380 lbs (except the backfiring decel and shutoff fart  :o  ;D). for 2-up or longer rides the C50T is fantastic (except I want a wee bit more highway gear - top gear mod).

Actually my dad may be interested for $999 as-is if we can arrange to get it near North Seattle.  Much easier to sell (and transport) in running condition ;).
