Title: Replacing damaged tank.

How interchangeable are gas tanks on these bikes, I have a 2002 Savage with a massive dent caving in the left side of the tank (looks pretty wasteland). I am wondering if I can put any Savage tank on it or do I need to stick to certain years?

Same -same,  except for color and badges

As Batman indicated...they all bolt on the same.

A tank for California has an internal vent tube that connects to the evaporative canister.....other tanks won't have that tube and cannot be used in CA.

If you're wanting to ride further before having to get gas, now would be a good time.

don't use a california cap with an 49 state tank... no vent in the cap.

Vercy, I thought the CA cap was unvented at one time, but I think it was you talked me out of it ? I think all the caps are vented, air still has to enter the CA tank as fuel level drops or when the  bike is running and pulling fumes through the emission system.

Thanks for the info, found a tank in orange county that had the CA vent.
