Title: 5 lost weeks!
Post by zipidachimp on 03/12/19 at 00:27:22

Soon after turning 75 last month, the weather took a dump, turning really cold, really fast. In addition I came down with what I later learned was Bronchitis, It's a viral disease, so no medicinal help, it has to run it's course! It saps all energy and appetite.
I managed to cope with the following; 5 boxes of kleenex, large wastebasket, cans of chicken or vegetable soup, lots of oranges, tea not coffee, and a good stereo system. Total Pain! Duration is about 3 weeks, but allow an extra week to recover.
I lost all desire for any meat dish, but could tolerate eggs.
Wouldn't wish this on a worst enemy.
ps; Cold is the real killer, forget climate change!
cheers! 8-)

Bummer......being sick is no fun for anyone.

I had almost made it through the winter without my yearly cold - unfortunately that situation changed Sunday a week ago, and I am still working on getting rid of my cough and congestion.  A cold is much less traumatic than your Bronchitis, and I hope to be better by the end of the week - in time for the return of the riding weather in KY!  It is 33 degrees right now....but it will be middle 60's tomorrow and near 70 on Thursday!

I hope you too will be all mended and ready to go when the riding weather returns to BC!

Thanks, Dave. It took about 1.5 weeks before I figured out what I have, my doctor was on vacation!!  It's starting to warm up now, but Feb was really bad/cold. First time with this disease, hopefully the last! cheer! 8-)

Bronchitis just means a non-specific inflammation of the bronchia.
Sounds like they don't know what it was. Some viral agent is the likeliest.
The best thing you can do is to cut down on mucus formation.
Dairy is the number one promoter of mucus, so cutting that out completely is recommended but cutting out the meat and eggs would help too.

Wife & I are in our 70s, so far we have dodged the cold/flu crap around us this winter.
Weather is getting better here in the Windsor/Detroit area - I washed the van in the driveway yesterday and aired up the tires on the bikes. Got my 2019 plate tags bought and installed today... batteries are all charged up on the workbench ready to go back in the bikes.
The next sunny day I'm "off the chain" and runnin'  8-)

Glad you're on the mend! This thing going around is rough!
I've been lucky for the past several years and managed to fight off anything that started to get me.  I'm 54 now and used to get a cold once or twice a year but it changed recently and I've been lucky.
But I also caught this last bug.  I think my resistance was down because we got a new puppy so I was up several times a night, at the same time we also had a run of really cold weather.
I was pretty sick all of February and into March.  Did a round of antibiotics when I woke one morning and couldn't even touch the left side of my face.  The worst of it was all the crap in my chest/lungs.  I'm still clearing it out now.

Normally I don't get sick, but just after turning 75, it hit like a ton of bricks. All I wanted to eat was soup and oranges! Lost 10lbs, and all my energy. cheers! 8-)

Glad you’re feeling better Zipi. A good diet and flu shots are a must as we age. Being sick sucks !
