Title: Camshaft compatibility for different years

Does anyone know FOR A FACT whether or not any camshaft from any year would fit any engine from any year?  And what is the actual difference, if any?

I've found a few on ebay, and some of them say they're good for all models, but others give a certain year range. I need to replace the one on my '87

Part 12711-24B05   seems to be a current stock number and will fit all bikes.

No, from around 1995 and later, the part number changed to 12711-24B11

Just make sure you buy one that is not damaged/worn - a lot of them have worn lobes from using an oil without sufficient ZDDP, or worn journals from too low of an idle speed.
