Title: The Good Old Days!
Post by T And T Garage on 01/16/19 at 11:41:51

Ask anyone over the age of 60 and they'll probably tell you that "the good old days" were back in the 50's & 60's.

Now, looking past the blatant racism, misogyny and homophobia of that time - we should focus on the economic prosperity of those years.

Arguably, the 50's through the 60's (and just into the 70's), we Americans were on top of the world, economically.  Everyone who wanted to, worked. Mom's could stay home with the kids while dad earned plenty to keep up the house and even go on vacations.  A new car nearly every year was more common than not.  Very few were left behind (again, looking past the racism and misogyny of the time).

All in all - booming prosperity.

And all with marginal tax rates from 60 to 80%.

These are the same rates that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is proposing.

I don't see a problem with that - there's yet another reason I'm proud to be a Justice Democrat, a progressive.

But then you have guys like sean hannity and scott walker blowing a gasket over the mere mention of a marginal tax rate.

I wonder why that is?

If you look back, we can all thank ronnie and his administration for the mess we're in today.  He cut the tax rate and tripled the debt - and we've never been the same since.

Massive debt is what we're used to.  We're heading to $22 Trillion and no mention of it from anyone - not even the "fiscal hawks" of the GOP.

If we keep giving massive tax breaks to the top 5% and corporations, there will be no more middle class.  There will be a ruling class and indentured servitude.  When you work for the company store, you never earn enough to go elsewhere.

Of course, no one on here will live long enough to see it - but possibly our kids and grandkids will.

Not the kind of future I want for them.  It's not the kind they want either.  That's why people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are coming up into positions of power and guys like steve king, mitch mcconnell and yes, even chuck schumer & nancy pelosi are on their way out.

Here's to the good new days!

A series of wars crippling the economies of everyone but Russia sure helped.

Very true!  Let's not forget what happened in Japan.  We destroyed them, then rebuilt them, and they passed us on the tech curve.

However, that marginal tax rate stood for decades and no one went broke because of it.
