Title: Kuryakyn 1 1/4" Engine Guard Mounted Driving Light
Post by kylejang on 11/12/18 at 17:54:37

Hello everyone.
I found a guy selling new Kuryakyn 1 1/4" Engine Guard Mounted Driving Lights for $50.
Here is the link

I don't have a engine guard. Is it possibly mount to top of front fork?
If it is good I am thinking about buying a switch and wiring kits too.
Let me know how you think. Thank you guys.

I think you are going to run your battery down!

It looks like those lights use H1 bulbs....probably 50 watts each.  We believe the charging system on the Savage only puts out 100 watts total.  You just don't have enough "juice" to power these lights.

Thank you I never thought output.
Which part makes power output? I know cars have alternator.
I am going through online parts finder but I couldn't  find alternator.

The stator is the motorcycle version of an alternator.

And ours has an estimated output of 10 amps , it takes 7-8 amps to run the bike (ignition& lighting ) which leaves 2-3 amps to recharge your battery, and none for extra lights, or things like heated vests or grips. you would be much better off investing in a replacement headlight if you feel the stock one doesn't do the job , many owners have.

It's a 3 phase generator.
generators have magnets, alternators have field coils.

And the output is just bearly enough to run 2 headlights but don't expect it charge the battery too.

You'd need to convert the lights to led's.

If you want more light, Dave has been involved in several threads about changing to a led bulb.
I swaped to a led 20/40 watt sealed beam ( stock is a 55/60 H4 ) a GREAT improvement! BUT it was NOT a bolt-on change, it takes some work. I then mounted 2 - 15 watt led driving lights and have over 50,000 miles with no problem. Total cost was about $120, and a LOT of time.
This is the best lighting I ever had on a bike, better than my truck.
The 30 watts for driving lights and 20 for the headlight total less than the stock low beam. But if you add more lights with the stock H4 bulb, like Dave said you will draw too much power.
If you add 30 or so watts with led driving lights and only use them at high rpm for short times you MIGHT get away with it. ( or you may push home in the dark)
Your best path is a led sealed beam in a new bucket ( they won't fit in a stock one ) and it should still cost less than a couple $200 + H1 driving lights.
