The killer was identified as Ian David Long, a 28-year-old former Marine.

Good guy with a gun,.. bad guy with a gun.

Usually the guy killing people for no reason is the bad guy.
When the bad guy is the only one who has a gun, good guys are ineffective.
This guy, a marine, apparently had been there and knew who the security personnel were, and took them out first.
Why did he do that?
Why go kill people and then yourself?
If you're gonna kill yourself, start with That.
He had a magazine that was illegal.

But
How many people who are sucking linoleum even Know the guy is empty?
How many people who are trying to get away from danger Can grab something, turn around, and attack? It's been done, but not more than once in my memory.
Seems like a guy at a Waffle House disarmed a gunman while he was trying to reload.
Being the only one who has a gun seems to be quite an advantage.
I WOnder what a possible solution could be...

The cop had a gun,.. he's dead. He was trained, he was a good guy, he knew the shooter was there. He's still dead.
And the shooter eventually shot himself... the good guy didn't get him.

Yeah, you're right.
One good guy with a gun wasn't enough.
Bad guys win gunfights sometimes.
Seatbelts and helmets don't always save lives.
Should we declare them loser ideas?
The only answer to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
Tell me, would you be wishing for a gun in your hand in a situation like that?

Apparently, the cops had visited this guy before. A mental health group decided not to submit him to further evaluation.

The magazine was illegal in California, but then again, so is murder.

We can keep going with our usual conversation we have on here after one of these shootings or we can not.

There are 300 million + guns in the US so you can't confiscate all of them. There are people with basements full of ammo so you can't confiscate the ammo. It takes a couple minutes to modify a magazine so you can't confiscate all of those. And ultimately, 99.99999% of guns are never used in a crime so there's that.

The one denominator is mental health. Stop with the gun talk. That will get no results. Guns are all around us. That toothpaste is out of the tube and it ain't going back in. California made a big deal about their magazine law and as we see, it did nothing.

Start looking at the people, not the weapon. Stop demonizing everyone who owns a gun. Stop using the NRA as a convenient target. The NRA is made up of people, it's me, it might be you, I don't know. The NRA is a organization of people, it's not an independent monster hiding in the dark.

One of those killed was sheriff's Sgt. Ron Helus, who was cut down when he tried to enter the club with Highway Patrol officers responding to the gunfire.

A gunman in a crowded bar has a distinct advantage over people who are coming in.
The cop wasn't IN the bar when the shooting started.
The cop wasn't blended into the crowd. The cop had a target on his chest.

I'm sorry for all those who died, in the CA shooting , and of course their families! but what of the Marine, He was a vet who served in that desert sh!t hole ,came back with his head on backward ,like so many others ,what help did he receive? He was not even referred to a mental hospital ,and what the VA does for vets is a joke! I know vets that have waited almost two years for an operation . the government uses these young men up then spits them out. sink or swim, some sink. This type of thing will continue until someone takes proper responsibility .
