So , a year or so ago Dave set me up with a modified SV-650 caliper to try out on my stock front brake.
The stopping power went up by at least 150% . I believe the pad longevity went up too. ! ;)
But all things wear out eventually , and my front brake started the "scrub" noise last Tuesday .
Well , I ordered a pair of (dual disk brake) off a SV-650 to pay Dave back with but haven't delivered them yet . They had 1/2 worn out pads in them. I say "had" in one of them anyway.
I got plenty of use of the pads in the one you sent Dave ! They wore evenly and didn't hurt the rotor in any way , I'd call your experiment a success

Here is a picture of the pads that came it the caliper when I replaced them..

MM:

You don't have to wait until you can "hear" the pads are worn out - it is OK to have a visual "look" at them once in a while! ::)

And if you did order a new set of pads - put them in your bike. :)

No , I didn't have to order new pads , I used what I had on hand .

The set of calipers I ordered are for you to play with if you want them , I've had them for 6 months but forgot to get them to ya when you were here on your Ninja this summer.
Perhaps I can bring them to ya some sunny day , if ya can fix me up with an over-night pad in the shop . Then ride back home the next day ?

I was out on the weekend doing a riding training course with around 8 other bikes of all desciptions
Part of this training day was emergency braking.
My S 40 was one of the very best of them with the shortest stopping distance. Totally stock. New pads and tyres though

The stock S40 brakes work OK, but do require a lot of force on the lever to make the bike slow down quickly. This is probably a very good thing for a motorcycle that is targeted toward the folks learning to ride - as it helps to prevent locking up the front wheel accidentally. On a motorcycle with really good brakes, you can brake with only 2 fingers on the lever.

Stock brakes are not much to write home about, but perfectly suitable for a lightweight cruiser. Maybe not so much for a lightweight cafe racer. :)

I love the brakes on my cafe racer. I have Shawn's BBK. Also, with the forks properly sprung and valved, I get very little brake dive, so when I need to slow down NOW, I have no worries about grabbing the stop handle like i mean it. To me, the worst brake dive is at parking lot speeds when you suddenly have to stop; the sudden compression and rebound can lead to a loss of control at walking speeds.

My point, if you go with powerful brakes, you REALLY need to address the dive issue.
