Title: Does anyone have a crystal parts ball.
Post by Theblackestofmattes on 10/21/18 at 05:39:55

Is there anyway to tell if parts from an older bike would fit a newer bike?   I wrecked my 2011 and I've found a used parts dealer who has a 04 for peg.   Is there a reference guide, or some other way of knowing without possibly wasting the money to buy and find out?
Thanks for taking the time to read

You can look up both bikes and see if the parts you need are the same.

What parts?

The divider for part compatibility is usually whether the bike is a 4 speed or a 5 speed at least for engines and electrical.  The last re-badge was pretty much that, just a change in name and with a discontinued back rest. More knowledgeable posters can help better than I.

At some point in the past the turn signals changed too. Not just the style, I believe they also mount differently.

You can straighten out the pegs sometimes.
The signals are expensive.
After market may be the way to go.

Can confirm ... once the rubber is off it doesn't take much with a hammer or a vice to abuse the peg back into acceptable shape.

2004 is when a lot of the wiring changed - along with the shape/style of the turn signals.  The wire connectors for the harness changed, and the bike got emergency flashers and a headlight flasher button.

I've broke at least 5 foot pegs, every replacement I have bought has been the same, I don't think they have ever been changed.

I might have right turn signals from an "02". They are buried in a box in the shop, won't get there until Thursday, will look next time there. They may need some clean up.

Well, stop IT!
You're gonna get your dumbass hurt.
What are you doing that causes the falls?
Seriously, video

Is a book. I've read it five times and I see what reading it over and over has done for me. Learning to Not roll off when things get spooky has saved me from dropping it.

Now, back to the topic..

"What are you doing that causes the falls?"

Testing certain object integrities such as a fork brace.  At least three of them were off-roading on my old 86 or 87.  Ice rink challenge.  Frame slider test.  Just whatever we are doing at the time.

Harley pegs fit with little modification by the way.

I would love to take them off your hands.  Let me know if you find them

I was in shop today and looked at turn signals I have. They were in a little worse condition than remembered, attached a photo. If interested let me know, I will send them for shipping and a small donate to the forum.

If Theblackestofmattes does not want these I am interested.  Just purchased an 03 with no signals.  Give him plenty of time to respond though as hes got dibs.

You only need 10 posts, so post one more time and send a pm.

Blackestofmattes, I will need an address for shipping. With that I can determine the cost. They will fit in a small box. Then I would say a $25.00 donate to the forum would suffice.

I will send an email also so you have a contact.

Sent a PM, wouldn't allow email.
