Just curious as to how common the infamous head plug oil leak is, and if newer models still have the leak. I have a '12 and it has the leak.

Could you please reply with your bike's model year and if it has the leak or not?

Or if you're a dealer or shop mechanic, sharing your experience about the frequency of the leak would be appreciated as well. Thanks all!

I think so, new 2010, manufactured 2008 ,66445 km or roughly 41270 miles. I some how doubt you will get replies from dealers.

1987 10k miles has the head plug leak.

I will be installing the head plug I got from Verslagen over the winter lay up.

Given enough time and miles.....everyone will have the head plug leak.

It is 1 of the 3 known problem areas. (Head Plug, Petcock, Cam Chain Tensioner).

The headlight is somewhat anemic - but it is reliable. :(

2014 8500 miles no leaks yet. I have a Verslagen plug for when it happens. I hope it is a long time before it leaks. :)

Had mine at 19,000 miles ,I think it's much like the petcock ,it's not if ,but when.

'08, ~19K miles. No leak yet but I bought Versy's head plug and have it waiting when I need it.

2006 with 24,900 miles...no leak...guess I'm lucky

I once bought a 2000 with only 10,000 miles for 500.00 (claimed he had a blown head gasket)...I pulled the engine, replaced the head plug with sealant and swapped out for a verslavy mod, buttoned her up and sold to a friend for 1500.00 bux no leak...

As far as I know he's never had a leak and has let it sit in his shed for the last 4 years which is kinda a shame after I got everything right...

I have an '06 coming up on 16,000mi, and it leaks from up there. It leaks everywhere, I have a lot of work ahead of me.

2015 model, 24k kms, no leaks from engine anywhere. Had some orange crap from the front pully spraying out once, which was fixed by pulling the pully off and reattaching.

No petcock problems yet, but the clutch cam snapped a few weeks ago, which is more annoying than a head leak. You need to keep one on hand. Part no. 23 on the part diagrams for the clutch.
