I'm sorry if this question has already been asked and answered, but I couldn't seem to find it. When doing a chain conversion, a lot of people seem to be using an extra (cut down) sprocket as a spacer on the outside of the front sprocket. However, the ryca front sprocket kit has two spacers. One for the inside and one for the outside. Does anyone know which of these combinations gives you the correct chain line? Thanks!

I used two M24 washers, both in front of the sprocket. Easy, cheap & just the right thickness. 1 inch should work fine, too.

Sounds like a great alternative Kojones!!!
When you say "front" of sprocket, you mean on before sprocket, or after sprocket is installed on the countershaft?

Dave, I have read through the chain conversion how to many times, but it does not answer my question. In that post, he puts one spacer on the outside of the sprocket. The Ryca kit includes a sprocket and two spacers (one for either side of the sprocket.) The sprocket location differs by about 3/16" between the two methods. I'm wondering which one will give you the straighter chain line.

I think that is best determined by mounting your rear sprocket and making sure the back wheel is aligned....then using a straight edge to determine where the washers should go to provide the best fit (or sight down the rear sprocket toward the front).

Measure the distance from the swing arm pivot point to the rear axle on both sides, and make them the same. Sight down the mounted rear sprocket to the front sprocket....and adjust the washers to provide the best alignment.

Which Ryca kit are you using ? the bobber kit or one of the others ? where you place the washers may depend on that.
