Has any one used this product?

I went to the local hot rod shop that is a red line dealer. The guy however there did not sell the Red Line zddp. He had this stuff and said that is "what I want", well I wanted Red Line. At least I think I wanted Red Line.

I rather ask the man who owns one (the old Packard ad)
Then the dealer who is trying to sell me one. :-/

Matchless, don't know where you are in Jersey but I'm in Monmouth County and after an extensive search everywhere, ended up ordering it online. Order a couple extra bottles and keep some on hand, good excuse to change the oil more often. If you are near Asbury Park I can give you enough for an oil change as you don't use that much of the bottle and I have one open.

Or.....just use the current Rotella formulas.......the current 1,200 ppm of ZDDP in those oils don't require using any supplemental ZDDP.

Here in Jersey you can find the Rotella in gallon jugs at Auto Zone or in quarts in Walmart. I add some zddp to bring it to about 1500 ppm. Don't remember the exact amount but it's only like 3 ounces per oil change with the Rotella.

The product you pointed out above seems to use molyxxxxx rather than ZDDP , moly is ok for cars or HD/BMW type bikes with separate trans and clutches, but causes slipping in bikes with wet clutches.

I was wondering what was in it, the parts counter guy said it did not have sulfur, well yea, I don't want sulfur, (not sure if our savages have any yellow metals in them) Do they? :-?

EDS, So what are they charging for a bottle of kerosene these days? (and you have to remember to change the filter Every time you change the oil) I wouldn't waste my money. Brand name oils already have "detergents "in them to keep crud in suspension.

I'm not arguing with Batman, but I think there's a lot of us who change the filter every other oil change. Guess it depends on your oil change interval. I change the oil every 2K and the filter every 4k. I run the synthetic Rotella since I ride when it's cold.

Yep....sorta depend on how often you change the oil if a filter change is necessary as well.

I change my oil twice a year....it is time based and not mileage. I put fresh oil in just before I put the bike away......and again mid-summer just before I take the bike on a group ride to TN/NC. I may only have 1,500 miles on the oil, and I don't change the filter at the summer oil change.

However.....if I was riding the bike and extending the change interval to the maximum mileage allowed by law - I would change the filter each time.

There use to be a product in the 1960s called Magnus 755. I saw before and after crankcase desludging it did. It got some old Pontiac clean as a whistle. But the problem with a lot of this stuff is that it softens up things like seals. I use to use wd40 on everything till I found out it ruins seals.
I would only use something like this if I was going to rebuild a slugball Gm late 1970s diesel. Run it then drain and rebuild.

I was trying to raise the point ,that I looked at this stuff ,they don't say what's in it ,the do say it doesn't contain detergents ,so what else is going to liquefy the crud in your motor? Answer, a thinner oil based product (kerosene). so the only question in my mind is do you what to buy a bottle of their snake oil for $10 or do you want to buy a life time supply (1 gal) at the nearest gas station for $3 ? both will do the job and if you run the bike just until it reaches temp. and you use just a small amount should do no harm, but you should change the filter so none will be left in the motor. ( this is one time when tipping the bike to both sides to drain the "bathtub" under the cam would be a good thing)

Good suggestions Dave. However, if you are storing your bike in an unheated space during cold winter months like most of us up north do, it would probably be better to put fresh oil in to start the season rather than at the end. The reason being is that condensation can build up in the crankcase during the cold cycles and leave water behind. I don't know how true this is or if it's enough to even worry about. Just pointing out old wise tales I've been told. :)

Ohiomoto ,raises a point, not many people are aware that even new oil should be stored at a constant temperature or it will degrade even before use .Rather than store oil in my unheated garage (in N.Y.) in the winter an subject it to temperature swings ,I store it in my basement , and I change oil in the bike in spring knowing the oil that sat in the bike all winter is not good ,even if I had put fresh oil in it in fall .Dave having a heated garage ,does not have to contend with this problem.

I had a container of oil in the old cardboard "can" It had been it the shed for a long time. I opened it and started to pour, water came out with it.
I guess the old "can" was hygroscopic.
