Title: My bike build 97mm piston and stage 3 cam
Post by GT61 TURBO ZX14 on 02/01/18 at 12:18:46

;)I'm going to document my bike build. So far I bought a performance carburetor with all the upgrades from Lantz. Webcam from Lance. Modified cam chain tensioner and timing chain. I have got the 97 mm high compression piston I bought a cylinder head lightly ported and cleaned up brand new. I got an LED headlight for the front and an LED tail light the back. I bought a light in the flywheel bought a brand new battery from Interstate two brand new tires. Aftermarket exhaust. There's some other stuff I'm missing but I'll update when I remember what it is once I'm done with all this going to dino it and post up graphs so everybody knows what they'll make with this build

Did you get a "before" dyno run for comparison?

No motor was shot when I bought it it had 85 foot-pounds of cranking compression it was bad lol

I am going to have to put another petcock in so I have two of them the one for motor and one to feed the fuel system for the nitrous ;)

Did you document any of the work you did on the motor? Aside from just a picture of a pile of parts and then Just the motor almost completely assembled?

I meant pictures for your build thread. You have had a lot of posts about your thoughts and theories it would be nice to see your actual work that’s all.

Ya sorta I always for get to take pics of stuff but I will probably try to do a write-up about the motor and everything I did

What tire? How big?

Title: Re: My bike build
Post by GT61 TURBO ZX14 on 03/13/18 at 21:10:42

Front tire 110/90-19

Title: Re: My bike build
Post by GT61 TURBO ZX14 on 03/13/18 at 21:11:37

140/90-15 back tire

Post by zipidachimp on 03/13/18 at 22:11:30

I used the 140/90 and it was a mistake. Heavy!  For better performance, I'd use a 130/90.  I am actually moving to an 18" rear wheel with 130/70 tire. The stock bike is way over-tired. Cheers,  8-)!

My bike ant stock lol plus I live in the state of 10000 potholes on a street lol Minnesota after each winter so I am going bigger and next heavy-duty shocks because I am 6foot and 367lbs ;)

Never heard of over tired before though

I now understand your desire for more power......a lot more!

From a performance standpoint - most production bikes are "over tired".  The public wants beefy looking tires to satisfy the visual appeal - the 30 HP Savage doesn't need a big tire to put the power to the ground.

Bigger tires have more mass and require more power to get them moving - smaller tires take less power to get moving.  I have a 110/80-18 tire that I have been using for a couple of summers - I have never lost traction with it (it does look pretty skinny by current standards).

Has anybody seen the Honda rebel? Talk about over tired, fashion!? :'(

Title: Re: My bike build
Post by Gary_in_NJ on 03/14/18 at 10:53:31

The other issue with over-tiring a the rear wheel is that the wider tire requires more force to initiate a turn, and the wider profile takes more time to travel from edge to edge.

370 pounds. You're gonna require custom forks and shocks. I would strongly consider GSX600 forks. Contact CL Moto Tech for some properly sprung and dampened shocks or seriously consider building a hard tail. There is no way that swingarm geometry will support a high horsepower engine and a 370 pound rider.

You also have to give strong consideration to your brakes. If you stick with the OEM 38mm forks, you'll want to use Shawn's BBK.

You're gonna be asking quite a lot out of every component of that bike - all at the same time.

''over-tired'' is a opinion, depending on someone's experience, needs, and several other factors.
If you are interested only in acceleration, you want as light a tire that still gives you the required traction.
If you are concerned mostly with looks, you don't care about weight or mass you want a tire that ''looks good''.
If you want to drag your pegs in the twistes, you want matched tires that stick till the handlebars drag.
If you want a tire that rides like a pillow and lasts 20k, you get as big a tire that will fit and has a hard compound for mileage.
ALL TIRE CHOICES ARE COMPROMISES!
For someone that weighs over 350lbs, and wants to hop-up a S40, a skinny little tire Dave would run on his Cafe would NOT be the best choice.
Nor would the 150/90 15 I run on my bagger style ride.
With your size a 140 is not a ''wrong'' choice. (in my opinion)
The compound, construction, make and model are just as important as size in your choice. Weight will vary with different style tires, or even the ply rating, a 6 ply will be heavier than the same tire in 4 ply.
Try to think of the "big picture'' before you make a choice of your tires.
Making room for a bigger tire while you can is never a bad idea, you don't have to run a tire that needs the room, but you can in the future if you need, or want to.

Title: Re: My bike build
Post by zipidachimp on 03/14/18 at 13:56:15

under these circumstances, I withdraw my previous recommendations. You might even want to consider a 'darkside' option ! 8-)

Title: Re: My bike build
Post by Gary_in_NJ on 03/14/18 at 15:14:42

I’m thinking that an extended swingarm with custom bends would allow greater tire choice while at the same time open up some possibilities for suspension changes.

I already got a rear custom shocks being made I will do the front shocks myself I know how to chop them respring them revalve them the tires are bigger because of Minnesota roads we have so many potholes plus I bought both of them four under 90 bucks brand-new delivered to my house yes I know I can go a smaller Tire it'll make it accelerate quicker and run a smaller gear there's tons of stuff you can do I am just using these tires because they are cheap if I don't like them I will buy the stock ones my dad doesn't mean as much as me he's in the 220s witch will go faster for him this is just something I am doing for fUn. I am going to ride it for the summer then I will probably put the nitrous on in the winter if the motor Don make the power I want it to

Did you use assembly lube on the bearings?
I got some genuine cam goo when I got mine..
Without oil in the bathtub for the lobes to splash in it's kinda dry up there for a while.

Lol so did my dad until I showed him this stuff look it up on ebay or Amazon. Is not a can it's a bottle and it's a light green color we use it on top alcohol Motors and everything else.the white lithium grease sucks for Motors because it doesn't melt when it gets to a certain temperature so it's hard on oil pumps and can clogged oil passages and oil pumps to even I actually have Ben to school for this stuff and how it works and how any other assembly Lube Works. A friend of mine works for F1 racing team and this is what they use to. And another guy I know builds diesel motors and switch to this and has had less problems.
