Title: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by fueled.punks on 12/11/17 at 09:24:22 Good morning, I am mid build on my savage bobber and once I complete the hardtail addition this week, I will begin the wiring part. I am moving the battery to a different location. While I'm this deep into it.. Are there any parts of the wiring harness that I do not need?? There is so much and makes everything look cluttered. |
Title: Re: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by Gary_in_NJ on 12/11/17 at 09:51:36 Are you retaining the compression release? If not that can go. What about the "safety" interlocks? They too can go. Other then those, I'd say everything else is a necessity. |

Then you can drop kick the decomp controller too. |
Title: Re: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by Ruttly on 12/11/17 at 11:59:43 Fueled.punks do you need a bobber diagram ? |
Title: Re: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by fueled.punks on 12/11/17 at 12:24:05 That sounds fantastic! |
Title: Re: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by batman on 12/12/17 at 18:37:49 Fueled punks, If you have to ask where the solenoid is ,I'm thinking you might have trouble formalizing your wiring ,I'd be sure to have a Clymers book or a copy of the original wiring diagram and a volt/ohm meter for testing circuits if your bypassing anything .You may find some info in the Technical Section. |
Title: Re: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by fueled.punks on 12/12/17 at 18:48:29 I've labeled and removed the entire wiring harness since making this post. Found several wiring diagrams used for bobbers as well as one from Ruttly. I will likely just put everything back where it was until I have a better understanding of it. I've got some knowledge of electrical but all my work experience is in fabricating and mechanical. I used to build race cars years ago so motorcycles are pretty new to me. Wish me luck. I would post pictures of my progress so far if I could. I'm brand new on this site. It only seems to let me take a picture. |

Title: Re: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by Ruttly on 12/12/17 at 19:11:19 Some have used a small lever with a cable , I have the RYCA thumb lever. |
Title: Re: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by batman on 12/12/17 at 19:22:07 Ryca sells a hand lever(you need to bypass the clutch safety switch and be in neutral , they also have a foot operated level for the café bike ) .Others ,like Dave have used a small lever (bicycle ?) mounted in front of the clutch lever, with a short cable run to the decomp shaft. |

I removed everything and installed a 2" long bolt, so all I need to do is push it with my thumb to open the valves. Simple and it works. It is almost unnoticeable. |
Title: Re: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by Dave on 12/13/17 at 04:17:52 If you go to the RYCA web page and search....or go to YouTube, you will find videos and written instructions for bypassing and removing the solenoid, kick stand switch, etc. |

Title: Re: Rewiring 03 LS650 Post by Gary_in_NJ on 12/15/17 at 08:46:08 For what its worth...I have a manual compression release on my bike. I've never had to use it. |

As long as you have a good battery, you don't ride in really cold weather, and you don't have a Wiseco piston - you may be able to do without any compression release. |
