Title: Running Lean
Post by nedelden on 10/15/17 at 14:53:54

Engine runs rough, missing, but with choke engaged the engine runs smoothly.  What is the resolution?

Most likely you have something plugging up the jet(s).

Clean the carb.

Nedelden,
Is it only when idling or when riding?

Not knowing the history of it makes the answer difficult.
Dave's as close as possible considering the lack of real information.
If you're not the guy to open up the carburetor, try Sea Foam.

Personally, I think they were jetted lean from the factory to suffice the idiotic laws in California - especially at the low end (idle and about up to 1/4 throttle)

Do the idle jet mod really helped mine (drill out plug, and re-adjust out a bit), and I expect to get into the carb this month and do a jet needle lift which will help the idle to 1/4 throttle "surging" which is from being too lean.
