Title: yamaha raptor replacement
Post by Tobias dk on 08/15/17 at 01:43:15

hey guys!
so im about to order the raptor petcock of Amazon. is there something else i will need? it suggests vacuum caps, but i don't know what those are for..

should i be wary of something, or is it just plug and play?

You will need to plug the vacuum port on the carb when you switch to the Raptor. It's the port that has the hose with the coiled wire around it. The manual petcock doesn't use the vacuum port. You can get little rubber caps from any auto parts store. A 4 mm cap worked fine for me. Other guys have made their own by clamping some hose on there and then siliconing a screw (or a golf tee) in the other end.

uhm... i dont have a hose with coiled wire.. i do have a nozzle that is "free" though..! there should be a hose from the petcock running directly into the cylinder right??

If you go here

and scroll down to the second picture you will see where the petcock vacuum line is. This needs to be capped if you use the Raptor.
If this is uncapped or no hose is attached I am surprised your engine runs.

You should have two lines coming off the factory petcock. Facing the petcock, the one that comes off the right is your fuel line. The one coming straight down is your vacuum line, and when sitting on the bike, attaches to the right side of your carb.

Hopefully that makes some sense...  :D

If it isn't a Genuine Yamaha part, it's not gonna work.
Be careful.
Yamaha dealership is a guaranteed right piece.

Just ordered a new OEM raptor from my local Yama dealer last week, came in today. It was $32.00. Will install it over the weekend. Looked at pictures of all the cheap aftermarket ones on amazon and eBay, some looked really shabby. A couple looked like they were soldered tolgether. If you examine the photos carefully of the of the OEM and aftermarket you won't question for a minute spending the extra money on the Yamaha part.

32 $ for the raptor seems a fair price. but the sites i visit charges 100$ in shipping fees... and the european sites charge 90-100 euros for the raptor!!!
maybe i should search ebay...

oh, and i have the vacuum hose attached, just not coiled...  the "free" nozzle on my carb, is the one to the left and slightly higher than the vacuum hose nozzle. what is that??

Where do you live?
Is there not a Yamaha dealer nearby where you can purchase the valve?

You can do a search ,one member converted his stock petcock, to manual ,removing the diaphragm and making a flat plate for the rear and plugging the prime hole in the plug to make it the off position, as   I remember, giving him off ,run ,and reserve.

there are other models of the manual petcock, 1 I know of is for an early model intruder.
It's chromed or polished so more expensive... here anyway.

VS800 Intruder has the same bolt spread and a larger reserve. However, it is close to $100 for a brand new original equipment Intruder petcock... and since Suzuki finally got smart and killed off that model line...

I'm about to replace my petcock on a 2012. Should you replace the two rubber washers that go on the bolts, or is it fine to reuse them?

I reused the ones on my 2011 and all is well.
