Does anyone know why the majority of photos won't now open in the forum?

Instead I get an Icon asking me to update my account to enable 3rd party hosting at Photobucket.com

I don't have an account with Photobucket

Yep.....Photobucket changed their "free" policy, and they now want $ 39.99 a month to allow access to your photos.

The hundreds/thousands of photos that are linked to this site are being held hostage.....you have to pay to get access to them.

I'm pretty computer illiterate, as some on this site know, but when I post photos I simply use the program supplied with my computer. I've never needed a "Photobucket", an "Imgur" or any other program, or software.

I feel your pain!
I use Blogger as a "third party server" that is a Google related server, and knock on wood, I have had XLENT results

If not using Chrome, try a search for Photobucket Hotlink fix.

I'm on Chrome and it worked for me on all the sites I visit.
